The Githunguri Avocado Cooperative Society (GAS) is set to officially launch and open its new offices on
at Githunguri Stadium in Kiambu County on Friday 12th, September 2025.
This event is expected to bring together farmers, agribusiness partners, financial institutions and key stakeholders in the agriculture sector.
The cooperative, which brings together hundreds of avocado farmers from Githunguri and surrounding areas, seeks to transform livelihoods by creating a structured platform for farmers to access better markets, technical training, and financial support.

The launch marks a major milestone in the journey to empower local farmers and position Kiambu as a key hub for Kenya’s fast-growing avocado industry.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the organizing committee noted that the establishment of the cooperative will help smallholder farmers overcome key challenges such as market access, post-harvest losses, and low bargaining power.

By uniting under one umbrella, farmers will be better placed to tap into the lucrative local and International avocado market.

Githunguri Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba who has been at the forefront of championing the initiative, welcomed the move saying, this cooperative is a dream realized for our farmers.
“It will not only open new doors for our people to access better markets and training but also improve livelihoods and strengthen the agricultural backbone of Githunguri. I am proud to stand with our farmers in this transformative journey,” said Wamuchomba.
The event has attracted strong backing from various partners, including the Githunguri Constituency Office, Githunguri Dairy Cooperative (GDC), Equity Bank Githunguri branch, Nova Garden Limited, Komothai Coffee Growers Society, Avocado Farmers Producer Association, Safi Fresh Fruits Limited, Edufruqt Fresh Ltd, Bank of Africa, Sakifarm Ltd, Fresh Produce Consortium, Purevado, and Keitt among others.
It will feature exhibitions, partner engagements, and sessions to educate farmers on modern farming techniques, value addition, and export opportunities.
It is also expected to attract over 1,000 participants, including farmers, agribusiness investors and government representatives.
The official launch comes at a time when Kenya continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading avocado exporters in the world, with cooperatives playing a key role in ensuring quality standards, collective marketing, and sustainable farming practices.
