Nyanchama crowned Ladies Champion at Karen while Kaguta and Ockotch claims strokesplay title at Nyali and other Clubs record mixed results;

Vet Lab Sports Club’s Mercy Nyanchama emerged as the overall gross champion with a count back score pf 78 gross in the second edition of the 2023 Karen Ladies Open was held over the weekend at the Karen Country Club.
She had tied with home club’s Louisa Gitau who came in second while Agnes Nyakio came in third with 79 gross.
The tournament which is organized by Karen Country Club and part of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) calendar saw over 200 top lady golfers from across the country participating.
In the Division A nett category, Wayua Mululu emerged top with 72 nett, beating Naomi Kimata on count back. Rachel Ndei came in third with 74 nett, beating Dorcas Mbalanya on count-back,
In Division B nett category, Janealice Mutuota overcame a strong challenge from junior Brianna Ngecu, beating her on count-back with 70 nett. Carol Onsando’s 73 nett score was enough for her to claim the third position.
In Division C nett, Lillian Atho came in first with 68 nett, two shots better than Marie Mugo who came in second. Occupying the third position was Rehema Okal with 70 nett.
Meanwhile, Nyawira Macharia was the star among the juniors with 75 nett.
Speaking at the event, Karen Country Club Lady Captain Doreen Murithi said, “The Karen Ladies Open was a fantastic event that showcased the very best of women’s golf in Kenya. We were delighted to host such a tournament and provide a platform for female golfers from across the country to compete against each other. I want to congratulate all the participants and winners who made this event such a success. The annual event is part of the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Golfer of the Year competitions organized by Karen Country Club and is aimed at promoting women’s golf in the country.

William kaguta and Christine Ockotch are the strokes play Champions in the April 2023 Mug and Ladies Medal Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa County over the weekend.
The home club’s and senior member Kaguta Playing off handicap 4 carded 75 gross to win the Men gross title and his colleague handicap 16 Ockotch brought a total 85 gross to take home the ladies gross title.
“My putting to the greens obeyed my rules despite the course being challenging today following heavy rains but this was my day and I have made, “said Kaguta.
The Club sponsored the daylong 18 holes tourney that also saw Kaguta wining the Mug title in the A division category after returning71 nett.
Handicap 8 Dahir Awdeer had 77 nett and handicap 12 Dinesh Sasan with 86 nett were the runners up and third placed winners respectively.
Sammy .M.Kamau playing off handicap 18 played 72 nett tom win the B division ahead of second placed handicap 14 Faizullah Kudrati who had a score of 74 nett and third placed handicap17 Sanjay Kotecha with a score of 76 nett.
Joseph Kaguru playing off handicap 22 took lead in the C division with 71 nett, while handicap 24 David Soars on 73 nett and handicap 26 Tom Abwao with 75 nett were the runners up and second placed winners respectively.
The D division winner on 78 nett was handicap 39 Robert Muhita and handicap 34 Alpesh Malde sat second after returning 81 nett.
Ockotch again won the Ladies Medal in the A division slot on 69 nett while the Club’s former Lady Captain Mary Kandu playing off handicap 12 claimed the runners up slot on 74 nett and handicap 19 Florence Karimi was third with 80 nett.
Handicap 33 Rose Kinyanjui carded 74 nett to win the B division while the Club’s immediate Lady Captain Annmarie De-Jong playing off handicap 30 returned 81 nett for the second place and taking the third slot on 83 nett was handicap 26 Everlyne Akinyi.
Radio Journalist Joan Kimani playing off handicap 44 bagged the C division prize on 79 nett while handicap 16 Carren Akoth with 70 nett and Mombasa Lawyer Provia Odhiambo on 29 putts were the best caddy and best putter winners of the day.
