GOLF NEWS-A brand new ksh.2mllion V70 Volvo in offer for any lucky golfer to hit a “hole in one” in the Kambsome tourney at Seafront Mombasa Course on Saturday;

An estimated 180 Golfers will be eyeing to hit a “ hole in one” to walk home with a latest brand new V70 Volvo valued at Ksh.2 million during the Kambasome golf tournament to be played at the par 71 Seafront Mombasa Golf Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

But Club Chairman Paul Munyao and Club Captain James Gitonga said it will not be an easy walk to the park with the current strong monsoon winds blowing to the course from the nearby Indian Ocean waters.

They said the daylong 18 holes stable ford tournament will be very challenging to many golfers though the course is in its pristine condition and playing well following the ongoing downpour currently hitting Mombasa and its environs.
“The Kambasome golf tourney with its origin from Mombasa is being organized by “Wakwitu”golfers” to promote, celebrate the Kamba culture while also identifying and strengthening the unity of the community. It’s going to be a day filled with a lot of fun featuring Kamba traditional foods, dances and evening dinner and will be graced by several golfers across the Country, “said Munyao and Gitonga.

Wakwitu Golfers Captain Joseph Kitema appreciated the many sponsors supporting the event while adding that everything has been finalized in readiness for the tourney and wished all golfers a successful day.


“Many golfers from outside will be attending including among others will be prominent Kamba golfers Joseph Kitulu from Machakos Country golf club and Julius Musyoka from Dubai. This s going to be memorable day mostly aimed at keeping our culture alive and uniting our community, “said Kitema.
According to the programme, the dress code for the golfers in the course will be yellow top and white bottom for both Men and lady golfers.
The tournament is jointly being sponsored by Munyao,Muthama &Kashindi (MMK) advocates,Wakwitu golfers, ports Sacco,Envasses Environmental Consultants Limited,Khushi Motors, Friends of Kambsome,Africa Bliss Travels Limited,Dala Dala and Pernod Ricard.
Apart from the sterling prizes lined up for the winners, the golfers will also be eying a chance in hitting a “hole in one” to walk home with a brand new latest V70 Volvo valued at Ksh.2 million.
According to the draw, the team of K. Njoroge, G. Kisaka,S. Mundia will be the first to tee off from 7.20 am and the last group will be the team of J. Mochanga, B. Chhabhiya, D. Mwangangi and S. Onsongo that tees off at 1.42pm.
Among the youthful ladies to wactc includes Faith Muteti who tees off at 8.00 am alongside F. Lasker and A. Kimenye while Mesaidi Maarifa who should also not be ignored will be teeing off at 8.40 am alongside Maithya, M. Kamba and A. Kimwele.

Meanwhile, top leading Amateurs take their supremacy battle to Nakuru Golf Club for the Coronation Cup this weekend from 2nd, to 4th June.
The golfers gracing the tournament includes among them , the National Team Squad headed to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the Annual Region IV Golf Championship from 5th-11th June 2023 that is comprised of Mike Karanga, Dennis Maara, John Lejirma and Junior Golfer Elvis Muigua.

The team will not only take on the Prestigious Nakuru golf course as their last practice session for the big task in Ethiopia, but would also be battling out for the most coveted Coronation Trophy and a cash prize sponsored by NCBA Bank, Eabl, and Moi University.
Other notable contestants are Senior Nakuru Club Golfer Luther Kamau and junior lady golfer Channelle Wangari from Vetlab Sports Club.
The tournament also qualifies for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Ranking and the battle for the Club of the Year Trophy (COTY) continues with the leaders Kiambu Golf Club sending a delegation of 6 golfers who are committed to take the top points and extend their lead.


The event is organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) in part of the ongoing Kenya Amateur golf series featuring 26 events being played across the Country with the last one to be held at Nyali Golf and Country club, Mombasa in December where the golfer of year will named and crowned.
According to a statement by the KGU Chairman Philip Ochola, this weekend tourney will be special by also marking the British King Charles Reign and believe that the Championship will be an excellent opportunity for the Club to feature in a KGU calendar event with Country wide elite Amateur Golfers.
“The event is a 54 holes strokes play with plenty of prizes and a wallet prize money of Ksh.400, 000,”said Ochola.


Club captain Mathew Maiyo said there will be lots of fun seeing the Country’s great players and that the club was ready and thrilled to host the tournament.
“The course is in its excellent condition and the Club has finalized all preparations to ensure the success and comfort of the players, “said Maiyo.
