GOLF NEWS-Action Heads to Kitale as 150 Golfers Converge for the KCB East Africa Tour;

An estimated 150 golfers across the Country are set to battle for honors in the 13th, leg of the ongoing KCB East Africa Golf Tour set to be played at the par 73 Kitale Golf Club Course, off the main Kitale-Eldoret Highway around Kitale Town in Trans-Nzoia County on Saturday.
The morning tee action is expected to start at 7:00 am as teams battle for the top two positions to book a slot in November’s grand finale Pro-Am event that will be held at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

Currently, 11 teams have secured their places in the grand finale following the successful 12 legs that have been played thus far.
Two latest entries joined the party from the Kenya Air Force Commander’s Cup hosted at the Great Rift Valley Golf Course last weekend.
Kitale Golf Club Captain Fandi Shiyuka said, “We welcome golfers from different golf clubs to Kitale for a splendid competition that will ultimately position our Club as one of the best in the region. The greens are in good condition and the fairways offer the players an ambience like no other for them to showcase their prowess and skills. My gratitude goes to KCB for giving us an opportunity to be part of its series. We want to leverage this partnership to elevate the sport to an elite level.”
Over 1000 golfers have so far participated in the 12 legs currently held while another 600 ladies and juniors have been part of the clinics that run concurrently with the tour.

KCB Group Director Marketing, Rosalind Gichuru said, “We have made headways through the KCB East Africa Golf Tour, providing an opportunity to thousands of golf enthusiasts to participate in this amazing journey that has hugely been impactful. We still have a couple of legs to play before the grand finale that will no doubt be the culmination of what has been a successful run.”
The Saturday’s golf action will culminate in juniors and ladies’ clinics on Sunday before a tree planting exercise at the same venue as KCB solidifies its sustainability initiatives.
MAARUFU MOHAMED, GOLFNEWSLINKS ADDS, the Kitale Club was established in 1924 by the European settlers and was strictly patronized by white settlers and no other race was allowed.
This was just a small building and the man who was very actively involved was Colonel Swain of the British Army.
After Kenya acquired independence from the British, Africans started taking up membership at Kitale Club.
Today, the Club is multiracial and all races intermingle freely in a friendly atmosphere and has an 18-hole course, well lawned and expensive sitting on served acres of land whose design is of high quality.
The set up achieves ecological enhancement and blends well with the evergreen surrounding of indigenous forest as well as exotic.
Replaced forest consisting of pine, cypress, jacaranda and eucalyptus trees which blends well with the indigenous tress and enhance a serene microclimate.
The grass on the golf course include Bermuda, spropolus, anastida, congo signals and others all of which are well manicured while the aforesaid flora is inhabited by the colobus monkeys and other species of different species of birds.
After Kitale, Machakos Country Club will be the next host of the KCB East Tour scheduled to take place on October, 7th.
