Chege Mbugua delivered a stellar performance, scoring an excellent 41 countback stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the highly competitive field of 250 players during the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Annual Corporate golf tournament played at the par 71 Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi county on Friday.
“Iam honored to have won this prestigious tournament today and I take opportunity for KPA, the club and the club for organizing the event to its successful conclusion. The win means a lot to me and I shall continue to train more in preparation of more tournaments, “said Mbugua.
The handicap 15 golfer had tied on the score with Men winner placed handicap 20 Samson Kimilu while handicap 18 Benson Theuri was the runner up on a count back score of 40 points after tying with handicap 20 Paul Mwangi who was third.
Ivy Katee playing off handicap 27 won the lady’s prize on 40 points and handicap 34 Jacinta Wakahorac with 29 points emerged runners up.

The Staff prize was won on 39 points by Charles Odoo playing off handicap 24 won the Staff prize after carding 39 points while handicap 25 Michael Sangoro brought 25 points to claim the runners up slot on 35 points and handicap 19 lady golfer Terry Odoo was third on 32 points.


During the Corporate golf dinner prize giving ceremony in the evening, KPA General Manager (GM) Corporate Services Edward Kamau said KPA has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming customer experience by pledging continuous investment in port infrastructure and the refinement of business processes.
Kamau who was representing KPA Managing Director Captain William Ruto outlined various current and ongoing initiatives that will enhance the capacity and overall efficiency of port facilities.
He pointed out Key among these initiatives is the construction of berth 19B at the Port of Mombasa to enhance port capacity, equipment modernization program and rollout of the new Terminal Operating System (TOS) to enhance cargo handling.
“Our primary objective is to guarantee unparalleled operational efficiency for the benefit of our customers,” said Kamau.
Kamau also highlighted the positive performance recorded across all the port facilities, singling out Lamu’s impressive turnaround that has witnessed increasing ship traffic.
According to the GM, In the month of August, between 4th and 31st, the port received a record 32 vessels, out of which 13 were container vessels, and the rest were conventional cargo and fishing vessels.
The Dinner was a culmination of the annual KPA Corporate Golf tournament, held at the same club, which brought over 250 golfers from across the country alongside key customers and stakeholders.
The event served as a strategic platform for KPA management to directly engage with its partners, focusing on identifying unique business concerns and needs to drive operational efficiency.
Elsewhere, at the par 71 Nyali golf and Country club course in Mombasa on Saturday, handicap 28 Harshil Shah brought carded 42 points to emerge the overall winner’s slot while Major Joel Mochanga playing off handicap 7 recorded a 6 over 77 to emerge the gross winner in the First Assurance golf tournament.
The men winner of the Division A for those playing off 5 to 12, was handicap 12 Shem Tubei on 37 points while handicap 10 Jimmy King’ori on a count back score of 36 points was the runners up after tying with third placed handicap 8 Qmbar Somji and the lady winner in the same category was handicap 15 Truphena Oyaro with a score of 32 points.
Dr. Kibet Kikwai playing off handicap 18 took command of Division B for players with handicaps 13 to 24 after producing a count back score of 39 points, same as handicap 22 Kailesh Chauhan who was the runners up.
Division B lady winner for those playing handicaps 21 to 24 was handicap 23 Joyce Kamau with a count back score of 31 points that was recorded by handicap 22 Alice Wahome who was placed runners up.
Players on Division C for handicappers 25 to 54 were beaten by handicap 37 Brijesh Pattni on 40 points and handicap 34 Dr. Ramadhan Omar carded 39 points to claim the runners up slot.
Handicap 24 Dominic Makau was the Senior winner on 38 points while handicap 12 Tonny Gachau with 40 points and handicap 22 Gathanwa on 35 points were the Junior and Staff winners respectively.
Rashid Juma playing off handicap 40 won the guest prize as handicap 32 Gertrude Mwedah emerged the winner of the Invited Coastal clubs.
