Home Club’s Caddies Carren Akoth and Fredrick Obonyo kicked off the season on a high note after emerging top winners in the Lady Captain (Hilda Mugure) 2025 Prize Caddies Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Monday.

The handicap 16 Akoth carded 13 over par 84 gross while handicap 4 Obonyo played a level par 71 gross to emerge the overall lady and Men gross winners respectively in the Coast region’s season opener for ongoing week long tournament series that started off on Sunday.
“The win means everything to me and shows that hard work pays off Wow. This is incredible and I’m blown away by the trust placed in me and finally got the win. Thanks to my colleagues, sponsors and everyone who supported me. I’m grateful for this opportunity and Looking forward to the next challenge,” said Akoth.
Handicap 44 Ruth Awino brought 68 nett to emerge the lady nett winner while handicap 11 Glorious Mwende on 72 nett and handicap 31 Mary Chizi with 73 nett were the nett runners up and third placed respectively.
The Men nett winner with a score of 71 nett was handicap 11 Francis Murimi, as handicap 5 Amos Mutisya claimed the runners up spot on a count back score of 73 nett after tying on the same score with third placed handicap 9 Patrick Munga.
This ongoing rejuvenating week is the Coast Golfing Community’s region season opener, organized by Nyali Golf and Country Club Lady Captain Hilda Mugure to bid farewell to Club members and her friends after a successful one-year tenure in office.
According to the programme, the tournament is featuring the Coast Golf Community from all the Coast Golf Clubs with players from the home Club, Sea-Link Mombasa, Diamond Leisure from Kwale County, with Kilifi County’s Vipingo Ridge and Malindi Golf Club.
It started on Sunday with the Juniors, then the Caddies, before the players took a rest on Tuesday and Wednesday.
They resume on Thursday with the Club nite competition, then friends of the Lady Captain tournament will hit the ground on Friday before the much awaited main action that is scheduled on Saturday,17th, January.

Among the club’s top lady golfers eying for the top spot in the main action is a German based Kenyan Lady Golfer Joyce Radke who is also the Club’s former Lady Captain.
“Here we come, It’s another season to breathe again. I have practiced, prepared and now ready to play smart, strong and focused for the top prize. But above all, let’s own this tournament, time to bring our A-game, let’s enjoy the game, support each other and make it happen. Let’s also have fun, play our best, and maybe even sneak in some laughs, “said Radke.
This tournament is jointly being supported by various Tea sectors, food and other beverages, Service Industries as well as Real Estates and friends of the Lady Captain.
Club Chairman Jayne Githere flanked by her Club Captain Omar Lewa described Mugure who is bowing out office as a reputable Leader in the Tea sector whose dedication and passion have made a lasting impact on the club.
“As we bid farewell to our amazing Lady Captain, I want to say thank you Mugure.Your outstanding job, as a Lady Captain has set the bar high and We’re indeed grateful for your service and leadership. You’ve been a star. Your shoes are tough to fill, but we’re ready. Thanks for keeping the golf fun and the ladies engaged. Thanks too for paving the way, and let’s keep building on your legacy,” said Githere and Lewa.

The outgoing Lady Captain Mugure who steered the Ladies’ section with professionalism and respect for the membership resulting in overwhelming support and participation in all her events, appreciated all her Club members and staff for the smooth team work that enabled her run the office successfully.
” Thanks for the privilege to lead, I’m honored to have served as Lady Captain in this incredible journey. The future of the Club is bright, let’s keep pushing boundaries and inspiring each other, Proud of what we’ve achieved and Let’s continue keeping the momentum. I also attribute all to God’s favors and am confident that, with the support from the able Ladies’ committee, the Membership, the Staff, Management and the Board of Directors, all will continue to be well. Thanks to the committee, members, and everyone who supported me and Thanks to everyone for making the year memorable, Thanks for the laughs, golf, and memories,” noted Mugure.
Mugure further pointed out that some of her successful events during the year 2025 includes the inter-club tournament in the first half of the year that attracted all the Coast Clubs and beyond.
“The Ladies’ Coast open in the month of August did not disappoint as nearly all the Clubs in Kenya signed up while the monthly Ladies medals had record numbers too,” noted Mugure.
