GOLF NEWS-Coast Junior, Imani Mugavana floors veterans to grab top prize in CBK tournament at Nyali.

-The tournament that attracted 163 players, saw Everlyne Akinyi and Regina Kaveke top the Ladies categories.

A Coast Junior golfer, Imani Mugavana floored 163 players including Veterans after carding a brilliant 39 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Mombasa Branch Golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf & Country Club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The 17 years old Mugavana playing off handicap 21, put every course challenge aside to produce 5 level pars against a mixed pot of bogey shots on the rest of the 18 holes to cling to the day’s top leader board.
“The course was tough, but I stayed focused and really thrilled to win today. A lot of thanks to my parents for driving me to every practice and believing in me, my coaches, friends for supporting me everyone who made this tournament amazing. This win means everything to me and I’m so grateful,” said Mugavana.
Handicap 19 Andrew Miheso was the men winner on a count back score of 37 points, same points with runners up placed handicap 22 Raju Patel while A.J. Molu playing off handicap 5 carded a 6 over par 77 gross to emerge the day’s gross winner.

Everlyne Akinyi playing off handicap 24 dominated the Ladies’ section after recording 38 points to emerge the lady winner, beating handicap 33 Regina Kaveke to the runners up slot by a single point difference.
Murtaza Saeed with handicap 25 claimed the best senior prize with 37 points and handicap 10 Shay Chauhan produced 35 points to win the junior prize.
The staff prize on the day’s best score of 44 points was won by handicap 19 Joel Kaindi while handicap 23 Njenga Kimani on 30 points and handicap 34 Brijesh Pattni with 37 points were the guest and high handicapper’s winners respectively.
Club Captain Muzahim Taib noted that the tournament marked an exceptional day at the course and it has been more than just a competition, a celebration of camaraderie, sportsmanship and the shared love of the game that brings all together.
“The course tested us, the weather challenged us, but your spirit and enthusiasm truly defined the day as I sincerely extend our Club’s gratitude to the Bank for their generous sponsorship and continued support. Your commitment not only elevates this tournament but also strengthens the growth of golf and community engagement. To all our participants, thank you. Whether you played your best round or
simply enjoyed the walk, your presence made this event vibrant and memorable. To our organizing committee and staff, your hard work behind the scenes ensured everything ran smoothly and we deeply appreciate your dedication. Golf as we know, is a game of integrity, patience and humility.
He pointed out that the day witnessed all of the qualities along with some truly impressive performances and congratulated the winners.
“Well done to everyone who took part. Events like this remind us that golf is not just about the scorecard, but about the friendships we build along the way. We look forward to many more such occasions together and may your next round always be better than your last, “said Taib.
The tournament was also graced by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge who thanked the Club for successfully hosting the tournament.
The Governor was accompanied by among others, the CBK Board Member Pius Angasa, Monetary Policy Committee Member Jared Osoro, CBK IT Director Dr Walter Onyino, Deputy Director CBK Robert Aloo, Deputy Director Governor’s Office Chris Gacicio and Branch Manager Mombasa Peter Kering.
