GOLF NEWS-Coast Lady Technician Constance Achila wins inaugural East African Ocean Festivals golf tournament at Sea-Link Mombasa Course;

Coast Lady Technician Constance Achila emerge the overall winner of the inaugural East African Ocean Festivals golf tournament played at the Sea-Link par 71 Mombasa golf club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 36 Constance was top after carding an excellent 48 stable points to lead the board beating a team of 120 golfers.
“It’s a great today winning this major event for the first in my many times playing golf and really grateful to my playing partners. We enjoyed the course, the breeze and ended up bringing good results. It was not easy for I had to put a lot of determination, focus and will continue to strengthen my training for better results in the coming tournaments,” said Constance.


The day long 18 holes tournament was sponsored by Kenya Maritime as part of celebrations scheduled for October 18-20, 2024 in Mombasa featuring a blend of sports, entertainment, environmental conservation, and cultural festivities that promise to attract both local and international attention.
Other Sponsors include Magical Kenya, National Museum of Kenya, Tourism Fund, City Blue, Skyward Express, Mombasa Tourism Council, Texas Alarms and Hotel Saphire.

The club’s vice chairman Lawrence Odhiambo playing off handicap 10 survived on a count back score of 38 points to claim the Man winner’s prize after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 10 Martin Wahome while handicap 25 Bhavesh Chhabhiya was third on a point behind.

Caroline Munyi playing off handicap 27 was the lady winner on 40 points while handicap 36 Jackline Mutahi on 39 points and handicap 21 Petronilah Kalee with 37 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.

Nyali Golf and Country club’s handicap 29 Pauline Gichara recorded 39 points to win the guest prize beating clubmate handicap 26 Jabess Oduor to the runners up slot on a four points difference and Golf Park club’s handicap minus 1 Sammy Mulama brought 33 count back points to sit third.

Kenya Maritime Chairman Hamisi Mwaguya who was the guest of honor thanked golfers for turning up in large and the Club  for hosting the tournament.

“We are happy the tournament was successfully and We promise that next year it will be bigger.”said Mwaguya.

He promised to work with other stakeholders in saving the Da Costa creek, part of the club’s course fairway  four  which is under threat from destruction by the Indian Ocean waters.

Elsewhere at the Thika Greens Golf Resort Course in Kiambu County on the same day handicap 13 Jamleck Kamau stole the show of the day claiming the top honor.
Kamau carded 44 points to emerge the overall winner of the Oil and Gas golf series beating a team of 180 golfers as handicap 13 Stephen Mwitara claimed the overall gross prize with 82 gross.
Handicap 24 Lenny Wanjau was the man winner with a countback score of 42 points after tying with second placed handicap 19 Daniel Kamau.
Juliet Maina playing off handicap 32 carded 38 points to win the top lady prize and handicap 12 Jane Gikonyo recorded 36 points to claim the runners up spot.
The man’s guest prize was won by handicap 23 Duncan Kivuitu who brought a score of 42 points and the same for the lady was scooped by handicap 35 Rhoda Koech on a score of 48 points.
Derek Okova playing off handicap 28 was content with the staff prize after recording 37 points while handicap 30 John Mwanthi on 46 points and handicap 40 Keziah Njau with 41 points were the subsidiary man and lady winners respectively.
And at the Machakos Country Club in Machakos County also on the same day, handicap 47 Harry Mule proved to colleagues that he was the toughest golfer of the day.
The handicap 47 golfer returned an excellent 44 points to win the September pendant top prize beating handicap 23 Nicodemus Masaka to the runners up slot on a four points difference.
Purity Kioko playing off handicap 45 scooped the top lady’s prize on a score of 42 points and handicap 19 Kyung Wang carded 38 points to claim the guest prize.
