Former lady caddies Everlyne Kerubo and Mary Naneo proved their best talents in the Lady Captain (Fiona Mbandi) Prize golf tournament played at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa golf course in Mombasa county over the weekend.

For the last ten years as golf caddies, Kerubo and Naneo’s prayers to be member of the club was eventually answered last month after a Coast senior golfer Sal Davies came to their rescue and sponsored them to register as full members of Mombasa golf club who can now play golf at any golf clubs around the country.

And they did not disappoint after handicap 21.7 Kerubo playing her first tournament registered 13 differential points from 34 nett and 21 points to emerge the overall lady winner of the Club’s Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi prize golf tournament.

For her efforts, Kerubo was awarded a new golf bag from Andy golf pro shop and a return ticket Mombasa-Nairobi offered by Paradise destination.
“It is a real surprise but am thrilled to be the winner of the tournament which is my first and greatly extend many thanks to Mzee Sal Davies. We shall not disappoint, “said Kerubo.

Club Chairman Paul Munyao praised Mbandi for hosting the colorful tournament and for having served her tenure in office diligently.
“Mbandi brought a corporate image to the club through advice, etiquette, governance and has a strong leadership skill. We are honored to have worked closely with her and hope She will continue supporting the club, “said Munyao.

The Club Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi thanked God and all the members for enabling her carry the club’s duties successfully in the last two years and appreciated all the golfers for turning up in large numbers to make her tournament successful.
“As I reflect on my term as Lady Captain for 2023/2024, I am filled with gratitude for the tremendous support I have received from the Mombasa Golf Club Board, our dedicated members, friends, and families. Their unwavering encouragement has been key to our success over the past year. I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to our sister clubs, including Vipingo, Malindi, Nyali, and Leisure, for their collaboration, and to our loyal sponsors for making our events possible,”said Mbandi.
She noted that one of the highlights of this term has been hosting two very successful Coast Ladies Open events, in 2023 and 2024, which brought together golfers from across the region that played a significant role in fostering unity and growth within the golfing community.
“Today’s tournament was open to both men and women and presented an excellent opportunity for us all who dedicated time to our health and well-being as we enjoyed the game of golf. I kindly request us also to be mindful of our responsibility to preserve and protect our environment, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of nature as we do. Let’s also please support such talents of Caddies and Junior golfers who have displayed great discipline in the sport of golf,” said Mbandi.
She praised the juniors for always being on time at the course, never argues, ever serious with their games and thanked parents for all their efforts in support to the young ones.
