GOLF NEWS-Golfers to salivate for a ‘hole in one’ Car prize worth Khs.4 million in Nation Classic Series Tourney at Nyali, courtesy of Khushi Motors;

-And some 150 others from the home Club and beyond will be cooling their throats at the Sea-Link course in the Tea Tourney with lots of shining prizes lined up for the winners;

A brand-new Toyota Harrier GR model, will be up for grabs during this year’s Nation Classic golf tournament at the great Nyali Golf and Country Club’s par 71 course in Mombasa County this Saturday.


The automatic five-seater car worth KSh4 million has been offered by leading motor vehicle dealers Khushi Motors of Mombasa as a special prize for a hole in one at Nyali’s signature hole, the par three-18th.
Khushi Motors, CIC Group, Minet, Premier Hospital, Wavemark properties limited and Jambojet are partnering with the Nation Media Group in this year’s tournament which marks the third leg in the historical series that have been taking place now for 39 years.
A big field of 222 players drawn from Nyali, Mombasa, Malindi, Vipingo and Diamonds Leisure Lodge, will be tackling the the challenging course currently in its best shape.
But besides the car, over a dozen prizes will be on offer, divided into several groups including the three divisions A, B and C where the top division involving players playing off handicap 10 and under, has attracted some of the Club’s single figure handicap players.

They include Club director Omar Lewa, Emmanuel Limatete, Alyssa Jamal, Jimmy Kingori, Yobesh Oyaro, Khush Malde and one of the club’s top amateur player Andrew Wahome who will all compete with some of the lady players of the like of Susan Stokes and Mary Kandu.
The event offers the Nation Media Group a great opportunity to interact with some of its clients and business partners from the Coast.
The Nation Classic, one of the highlights in the local scene this weekend, tees off from 6.38am for those who prefer to play in the morning.


Meanwhile, adds Mohamed Maarufu, an over 150 golfers will be camping at Sea-Link Mombasa Course for the Tea Golf Day being played in the same day this Saturday.
The daylong 18 holes tourney has attracted players from the home Club, Nyali, Diamond Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi with guests and sponsors having valid handicaps.


It’s being being supported by Stanbic, Bags &Balers Manufactures, KTW Shipping &Logistics, C.Steinweg Group, MIC Global Risks, DHL, and Tea Brokers.
Club Chairman Paul Munyao said the course is in good condition and playing well but strong winds from the nearby Indian Ocean may affect the player’s swings.
“I promise golfers that they have a great day full of entertainment and lots of fun with various sterling prizes lined up for the winners in the evening.
“All is set and as a Club, everything has been made to ensure golfers enjoy every moment during the tournament and I also take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their great support,” said Munyao.
The event kicks off at 7.48 am with the team S. Dodhia, R. Dodhia and lady golfer W. Kinyeru and the last morning group will be the team of Eng. E. Ndung’u, W. Bosuben, S. Taib who will be teeing off at 8.12 am.

The afternoon group starts at 11.40 am with the Club’s Former Captain Lawrance Odhiambo, C. Tolo, the Club’s Vice Captain George Mokaya and Maj.E. Lagat.
The Club’s Captain Francis Muthamia will lead the afternoon flight comprising of Thika Greens Golf Resort Club’s Ndiga Kithae, Symon Wambugu, and M. Mwangi at 11.56 am.
Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Coast representative James Gitonga and his flight of Maj. Joel Mochanga and Feisal Lasker tees off at 12.28 pm.

Youthful Golfers and a team to watch are E. Kiptoo, Willy Sang, Sammy Muraya and Lady Golfer Winfred Ndunge who tees of at 12.36 pm and the last afternoon group at 1.16pm will be that of Veteran Golfers Maina Gichungu, Henry Kamau, Diamond Leisure Golf Resort’s Alan Habala and lady golfer Hilda Mugure.
