Home Club’s Vice-Captain Michael Oloo was the man to beat in the gross division during the Mug and Medal golf tournament played at the Sea-Level altitude’s 18 holes par 70 Malindi Golf and Country Club course in Kilifi County at the weekend.
Under a cool breeze environment from the nearby Indian Ocean weeping across the Course, Oloo playing off handicap 9 was able to card an impressive 80 gross to claim the gross title in the tournament organized by the Club’s newly Elected Captain Henry Akello that attracted 120 golfers.
Handicap 23 Ali Abdala was the Mug winner on 67 nett while handicap 25 Sifa Dena claimed the runners up slot on 68 nett and Club Captain Henry Akello himself brought 69 nett to win the third slot.


Njambi Wasiger playing off handicap 47 won the ladies Medal with the day’s best nett score of 66 while handicap 31 Benedine Jebitok on 72 nett and Eunice kamau with 75 nett were the runners up and third placed respectively.
The tournament was jointly supported by friends of the Captain namely Philip Matei of Coast valuers, Tokero Ole kina, Raphael Wamiti and Sifa Dena among others.

Club Captain Henry Akello thanked the players and friends for the success of the event saying they had fun and encouraged all players to continue showing dedication to the game for better results to come.
“I take this opportunity to say a word of thank to all my sponsors, thanks to all the players who turned up and graced the occasion and made it fun for the whole day. It’s the first event of mug and medal sponsorship for this year and am looking forward to more, “said Akello.

Elsewhere at Thika Sports Club, Kiambu’s Elvis Muigua bagged Ksh.115, 600 as overall prize money after emerging the overall winner of the 2024 Winston Churchill golf tournament that ended on Sunday.
Muigua carded a round total of 144 gross to claim the trophy in the fourth edition of the ongoing Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) a supported by NCBA.
Nyali’s Adel Balala tied for the runners up slot with Kenya Railways John Lejirma after each brought a total of 145 gross and both were awarded Ksh.57, 800 each.


The third slot was also a tie between Vet Lab’s Isaac Makhoha and Kiambu’s Michael Karanga after both ended with146 gross each attracting a ksh.31.200 each.
Among the others in the top ten and ties are Paul Thika (Thika Sports)-152gross,Sammy Mulama (Mombasa)-152gross,Amos Odongo (Golf park)-155gross,Josphat Rono (Golf Park)-155gross,Geoffrey Karioki (Kisii Sports)-156gross and Steve Kiaro (Kiambu)-156gross.
This three days event which started last Friday attracted 111 top leading Amateurs from the Country and outside in an annual event supported by NCBA Bank as the title sponsor with others being STIHL, and Vivo Energy-Shell.


Apart from the cash prizes the winners also earned points in both the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and is the fourth event among the 27th of this year’s Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Schedule by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) after the Sigona Bowl at Sigona in January, the Windsor Classic at Windsor and last weekend’s Muthaiga Open at Muthaiga.
Thika Sports Club Captain Moses Gatonye, expressed excitement saying the event not only celebrated the sport of golf but also offered players a platform to showcase their skills.
“I thank the supporters of the event for their commitment to promoting sportsmanship and excellence that aligns seamlessly with the values upheld by the tournament and their support has been instrumental in bringing this event to fruition, “said Gatonye.
The Series moves to Golf Park Golf Club for the Golf Park Open and the last edition will be the Nyali Open which will be at the Nyali Golf and Country Club course in December after traversing nearly all the Golf Clubs in the Country.
