GOLF NEWS-It’s a magic day for Kunverji emerging the overall winner in I&M Bank event at Nyali;

Rajesh Kunverji had a magic day carding 41 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner in the  I&M Bank Golf tournament played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The handicap 17 Kunverji attributed his victory to a magic day playing against an extreme heat, sunny day and wonderfully four ball playing partners.

“I was encouraged throughout the day after rolling four level pars from the first tee off and I knew straight away that magic was taking its course. This is how I got the victory. Indeed it was a good day full of fun and I hope to defend the title next year. Thank you the club and the sponsor for hosting this wonderful tournament, “said Kunverji.

Handicap 0 William Kaguta scooped  the gross prize on a two over par 73 gross while handicap 15 Aloise Ogola claimed the Men’s title  a two way count back score of 39 points.

He had tied on the same score with Men runners up placed handicap 25 Tom Abwao and third placed handicap 19 Aameen Dhanji.

Jayne Githere playing off handicap 26 Jayne Githere was the Lady winner on 39 points and handicap 27 Petronilah Kalee carded 38 points to settle as the runners up.

Handicap 39 Max Mitterer with a score of 42 points and handicap 23 Ethan Kinuthia on 33 points were the Senior and Junior winners respectively.

Last weekend’s overall winner of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Corporate 2023 golf event at Sea-Link Mombasa Course, the youthful Willy Sang playing off handicap 22 delivered his promise of ‘Watch this space’ after carding 36 points to emerge the winner of Coastal Clubs.

The I&M Staff winner on 30 points was handicap 27 Stanley Gachoki and Malindi Country Club’s handicap 14 Walter Okoth returned a score of 36 points to emerge the guest winner.

Qayyum Shiraz playing off handicap 35 brought 44 points to win the High Handicappers H/C 28+ category for Men prize and the same for H/C 36+ lady winner on 36 points was scooped by handicap 43 Phoebe Makasi.

Club Captain Dinesh Sasan thanked the golfers for the big turn out and the sponsors for bringing their event to Nyali that was hosted successfully despite the unfriendly harsh heat experienced during the day.

Elsewhere at Machakos Country Club on the same day, handicap 22 Walter Keya recorded a score of 40 points to emerge the overall winner of the Machakos Girls Charity Golf tournament.

Handicap 22 Maruti Litali was the Runners up on 39 points and taking the third slot on 38 points was handicap 19 Peter Mutinga.

Angelina Mutuku playing off handicap 34 carded 28 points to win the Lady’s prize and handicap 30 Protus Shitero was the Guest winner on 35 points.
