Kenya’s Youthful Golfer Mercy Nyanchama’s from Njoro Country Club carded a four over par 75 gross to emerge the overall gross winner of the 2024 Ladies Coast Open of Mombasa Leg played at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Friday.

The Zero handicap golfer was awarded the 2024 Mombasa Cup after winning the same overall gross title at Malindi Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa on Monday during the tournament’s first leg.
Nyanchama’s victory came after sinking a rare lone birdie at the par four-4th hole with additional 12 level pars against a mixed pot of bogey shots on the rest of the 18 holes.
“I thank God, it was a good day playing with good partners and the course is in fantastic condition. The greens and fairways played on the spot with my golf balls holding. I would also like to thank the organizers and the Club for hosting this tournament,” said Nyanchama.
This tournament that brought 130 elite Lady golfers from across the Country, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania is one of the series in the ongoing Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU).
Under the support of the Union’s Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Coast representative Teresia Odoo it was played around all the five Coast Golf Clubs from Tuesday,6th August and was ending at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Sunday evening.
The Mombasa leg was jointly supported by Wine & More, Sasini, Bandari Sacco, Atlas Tea Brokers, Nulook, Hotel Saphire, Fertility Point, Severen Safari Camp and Friends of the Lady Captain among others.

Tanzania’s Neema Olomi playing minus 1 handicap was the Division A gross winner on a count back score of 77 gross after tying on the same gross with the event’s defending Champion handicap minus 1 Martha Babirye of Uganda who was the runners up.
Vicky Elias also from Tanzania playing off handicap 2 was third with a count back score of 78 gross tying on the same score again with Golf Park’s handicap 3 Aisha Duba who claimed the fourth spot.

The Gross division B winner on a count back score of 95 gross was handicap 22 Mary Awinja from Kakamega golf club displacing handicap 21 Catherine Kameme of Ruiru to the runners up slot and taking the third slot was Kitale’s handicap 22 Josephine Chesang with 95 gross.

Tanzania’s Yasmin Chali playing off handicap 17 claimed the Division A nett category on 72 nett while Mombasa’s handicap 18 Faith Muteti was the runners up on a count back score of 73nett, same points with third placed handicap 18 Diana Chesang from Kitale.

Handicap 26 Orpha Wamaitha carded 72 nett to win the B Division in Nett category while handicap 22 Carol Muthee from Nyahururu on 73 nett and handicap 28 Pauline Gichara from Nyali Golf and Country Club with 75 nett were the runners up and third placed respectively.
Club Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi said the Club was honored to host the tournament and thanked KLGU for their support and the players for turning up and displaying their highest skills and skills at the sea-link course.
“We are happy once again to have the presence of over eight KLGU representatives from across the Country and I hope all the guests had a memorable time and enjoyed the cool the sea breeze blowing to the course from the nearby Indian Ocean waters,” said Mbandi
KLGU Coast Teresia Odoo appreciated the representation from several Clubs around the Country and beyond noting that without them the event would not have been successful.
“Going forward, I would like to see the growth of Golf in the Country among the Ladies by encouraging more to play the sport through the promotional efforts being put in place by KLGU,” said Odoo.
