GOLF NEWS-Joyce Wanjiru emerge best in the Mombasa leg of the Ladies Coast Open Title at the Sea-Link Course.

Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru Njuguini carded a brilliant 1 over par 72 gross to emerge top in Mombasa leg of the Ladies Coast open golf tournament played at the Sea-link par 71 Mombasa Golf club course in Mombasa County on Friday.

The Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play defending Champion playing off handicap minus 1, rounded up the 18 holes’ day long tournament to claim the overall title, adding to her mixed pot of titles she won this year.
“It is great day for me here today. Apart from the sweet victory, it’s also a day that marks exactly 19 years since the passing of my lovely Mum. Iam extremely happy playing alongside top lady golfers across the country and beyond to win this prestigious title. It has been a tough competition but my hard work, skills and putting in significant practice, worked out positively in this excellent course. I thank all who put together this successful tournament and am positively looking forward to continue shining by displaying my talent to a much higher standard, “said Wanjiru.
This tournament that came after the first leg at Malindi, then Vipingo Baobab Ridge course both in Kilifi County.

It then went  to Diamond Leisure course in Kwale county and winded up at Nyali golf and country club course in Mombasa county.

It is one the series in the ongoing organized Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) calendar being played across the country.
Njoro’s Mercy Nyanchama playing off minus 1 handicap carded a four over par 75 gross to emerge the Division A gross winner.
Tanzanians handicap 0 Vicky Elias from Lugalo golf club brought 76 gross for the runners up slot and her country mate from Arusha Club Neema Olomi playing off handicap 1 was third on a 6 over par 77 gross.
The Division A nett winner on a count back score of 68 nett after tying with home club’s handicap 19 Orpha Wamaitha who settled for the runners up slot and Kericho golf club’s handicap 20 Sharon Moraaa brought 77 nett for third place.
Handicap 22 Sarah Bisera brought pride to her Njoro club after emerging the gross B winner of the Division B category by recording 95 gross while Nakuru’s handicap 27 Betty Kisoi settle for the runners up on 96 gross and taking the third slot with 97 gross was home club’s handicap 20 Maroin Ngaruiya.
In the Division B nett category, the top slot went to handicap 23 Anne Amran from Vet lab sports club who survived on a count back score of 75 nett.
She shared the same score with club mate handicap 26 Margaret Kalekye who was the runners up and Nyali golf and Country Club Chairman Jayne Githere playing off handicap 23 went home happy being in the third slot after closing the day carding 76 nett.
Mombasa golf club Vice Lady Captain Gladys Kiprono noted that it has been an incredible day and on behalf of the members expressed her heartfelt appreciation to all the players who have taken their time to join the tournament.
“Your participation has made this tournament vibrant, competitive, memorable and congratulations to all the winners. Your skill, perseverance and sportsmanship are shining example for all of us. And to all the participants, whether or not you walked away with a trophy today, your presence and spirit added immense value to the tournament. On behalf of our Lady Captain Susan Mwangi, we are proud of the unity, and sister hood witnessed today. Let us continue to build on this spirit in future tournament and gatherings. “said Kiprono.
KLGU chairman Rosemary Mkok praised the ladies for turning up in large numbers, promising to continue focusing on strengthening women’s golf in Kenya.
The tournament was jointly supported by Pauland, Bliss Resort, Picana, Kwal, KCB, The Whisky shop, Fantasy, Hotel Saphire, KPC, Minet, Prime Bank, Pweza Fisheries, Vivo Energy, Kericho Gold, TGL Credit, Nulook, Shikara Limited, MMK, Deansbrook Schools and Friends of the Lady Captain.
