Junior golfers have been invited to participate in the 2024 Kenya Junior Stroke play Championship Golf Tournament featuring both Boys and Girls to be played at Muthaiga Golf Club course in Nairobi.
The event set for 9th to 11th, April 2024,organized by the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) features all Juniors aged 21 Years and Under as of 11th April 2024 and with a handicap index of 24.0 for boys and 28.0 for girls.

The format of play is Stroke play played over four rounds of 18 holes each and that the deadline for registration entry close on Friday, 5th April 2024 by 5pm and can be done through the Muthaiga office or through a registration link………..https://bit.ly/kenyajnrstrokeplay24.
JGF said that the Boys & Girls Championship is a World Amateur Golf Ranking Event and also a Qualifier for the 2024 R&A Junior.


JGF said the competition will be played per the Rules of Golf as approved by the R&A Rules Ltd and the Local Rules of the Muthaiga Golf Club.
The Competition Committee will administer the competition and reserves the right to limit the number of entries or modify the rules of play in any way considered necessary and The Committee shall comprise of Muthaiga Golf Club Captain Bo Ciera, Chief Referee, and JGF Nairobi Regional Representative / Tournament Director Eng. Kimani Gicheru.


It stated that the condition of entry shall be open to juniors aged 21 years & under as of 11th April 2024 with a valid WHS handicap index of 24.0 and below for boys and 28.0 and below for Girls and the CDH ID must be provided at the point of registration.
“The championship shall be open to a maximum of 96 players. In the event of oversubscription,preference will be given to the lower-handicapped players, “said JGF.

The championship shall also be the qualifying competition for the 2024 R&A Junior Open for boysand girls under 16 years of age on January 1st, 2024, and will be over 12 years old by July 15th, 2024.
“Two qualifiers will be selected for this event (best girl and boy). The handicap limit is 15.4 as of the registration date for the Junior Open. The field size is limited to 120 players for the Junior Open. If entries exceed 120, those players failing to gain a starting place will be placed on a reserve list. The R&A will allocate places in the starting field per the detailed Terms of competition, “said JGF.


It pointed out that in the Rule of play the Competition shall be decided by FOUR (4) rounds of 18 holes each, played in the Stroke play Medal Format and that all participating boys will play from Simba (White) Tees and girls from Chui (Red) Tees.
There will be a cut for the top 48 and ties shall be applied after the first 36 holes based on the gross scores and in the Competition, participating boys and girls shall be grouped in classes according to their age.

The classifications are Class A: 19-21 Years, Class B: 16-18 Years, Class C: 14-15 Years and Class D: 13 Years & Under and the participant shall be grouped in the age bracket according to his or her age as of 11th, April 2024.
It further stated that individuals in their respective age groups with the lowest strokes aggregate for the four (4) rounds shall be declared CLASS Champions and the Committee reserves the right to merge age categories before the tournament.
“Caddies and ride-on golf buggies are not permitted in the Championship. Each player must carry His/her bag or use a trolley as permitted by the club. Distance measuring devices (DMDs) are allowed within the restrictions of the Rules of Golf. All competitors must play with a golf ball named on the R&A list of conforming golf balls current at the date of the Tournament. The penalty for breach of this condition is disqualification, “pointed out JGF.


MORE CONDITIONS INCLUDES;
-All competitors will be required to play with driving clubs with a club head identified by model and loft named on the current List of Conforming Driver Heads issued by the R&A. The penalty for breach of condition is disqualification.
-The Committee may provide ball spotters/ marshals to assist in finding the players’ golf balls. No other personnel will be allowed during any round.
-Players may neither ask for nor receive advice from anyone. To eliminate any possibility of doubt, spectators are asked to always remain at least 20 meters away from the players. In addition, they should not encroach into teeing areas or putting greens. The penalty for breach of condition is disqualification. Rulings must only be taken from appointed rules officials.
-A player must not unreasonably delay play when playing a hole or between holes. Penalties for breach will apply under Rule 5.6a.
-On completion of each round, scorecards must be checked, signed, and returned to the scorer by the individual competitor immediately. Cards not returned within a reasonable time will be regarded as ‘nil-returns’.
-Any competitor who misbehaves during the Tournament, including practice days, by swearing, throwing clubs, abusing, or vandalizing the golf course or clubhouse, or acting in any manner that might bring the game into disrepute may be barred from entering or taking part in any Tournament for such period as the JGF may decide.
-A competitor must not knowingly use any drug to enhance their performance. The complete list of prohibited drugs is available from ADAK (www.adak.or.ke).

TIME OF STARTING;
-A player must sign in at the starter’s office no later than 10 minutes before their starting time.
-A player must start at their allotted starting time. The general penalty shall be applied within five minutes of lateness and thereafter, disqualification (Rule 5.3a)
-The starter’s clock shall be deemed correct.
AWARDS;
-There will be separate prizes for boys and girls.
-Trophies will be awarded to:
A) Overall Girl Winner (lowest gross score)
B) Overall Boy Winner (lowest gross score)
C) Winners and runners-up in each class (Boys and Girls)
-There shall be no prizes for net scores.
-Prize winners must be present during the prize-giving ceremony.
-A competitor may not win more than one prize. In such a case, the prize shall be awarded to the competitor returning the next best score.
TIES;
-In the event of ties for the overall gross winner, the winning individual shall be decided by sudden
death on the 18th hole. Should there be a tie in the playoffs, the players shall repeat the 18th hole (or any other hole picked by the Committee) until a winner is determined. The
Competition Committee reserves the right to decide the result of the competition if a playoff is not possible due to darkness, time constraints, or bad weather.
-All other ties shall be settled by countback based on the last 18, 9, 6, 3, and 1 holes, respectively.
If a tie persists, then the preceding 18, 9, 6, 3, and 1 holes in that order.
-Tee times will be shared in the JGF platforms and emailed to the registering email addresses at the latest one day before the tournament’s first day. CLOSE OF COMPETITION;
-The competition shall be deemed closed when the Championship trophies have been
Presented. Protests shall not be accepted after the event.
