Kakamega Sports Club is set to play host to the 2023 NCBA Golf Series this Saturday, in the fifth edition of the series that will witness the participation of at least 150 golfers from Kakamega and neighboring clubs, including Nyanza Golf Club.
The Series returns to Kakamega this year as a qualifier and will be happening at the backdrop of the one year anniversary customer engagement scheduled for Friday the 9th of June.
The winners of the Overall gross, Men’s category, Women’s category, and Juniors’ category will earn their place to compete in the Grand Finale.
The event follows the successful fourth leg held on May 25th at Thika Sports Club, which attracted an impressive field of 256 golfers.
David Matano emerged as the overall winner, triumphing over a strong field of competitors with Simon Ndung’u secured victory in the Men’s category.
Naomi Kimata claimed the title of top Lady Golfer and Garcia Kimemia emerged as the champion among the juniors.
These four outstanding golfers earned their qualification for the series’ grand finale scheduled for December.
The NCBA Golf Series not only seeks to promote the sport of golf throughout the East African region but also aims to foster a stronger connection between NCBA Bank and its customers through their shared love for the game.
This year’s edition consists of a total of 17 club qualifier events hosted at various golf clubs in Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda.
So far, the Series has enjoyed successful tournaments at the Railway Golf Club, Limuru Country Club, and Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, and Thika Sports Club. Additionally, the Series includes two junior tournaments, with the first one having taken place in Uganda in March and the upcoming one scheduled for the Nyali Golf Club in November.

Elsewhere the Par 72 Nyanza Golf Club course in Kisumu County will host the sixth leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour in Kisumu County this weekend.
The much anticipated tournament is expected to attract 110 golfers as two teams aim to seal a spot in the grand finale to be held at the Karen Country Club later this year.
The bank has held five legs of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour so far at Vetlab, Limuru, Railways, Eldoret and Kakamega golf courses.
KCB Group Director Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru said, “We are happy to head to the Lakeside city of Kisumu for the sixth leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour. So far through our women and juniors golf clinics, we have reached over 500 participants underscoring the impact we are having in the counties we have traversed. It is our objective to reach more and more participants as the series continues. We are buoyed by the reach so far as it speaks to our commitment and deliberate efforts towards golf.”
Two weeks ago, Dr. Catherine Aura led her team of Ronald Omondi, Beatrice Otieno and Derek Mwaura to glory at the Nine-hole Kakamega golf course in Kakamega County.
Nyanza Golf Club Captain Thomas Odongo said, “We welcome the KCB East Africa Golf series to one of the most challenging golf courses in the country. It will be interesting to see how various golfers will navigate the course. We hope to have a good outing.”
Eight teams have so far qualified for the grand finale slated for November and the Kisumu edition will see another two teams book a slot for the Pro-Am tournament.

And an estimated 150 golfers will be at the Ruiru sports Club course in the same day playing for their June Series Golf day tournament sponsored by Mutcho Enterprises in the 18 holes event.
The team of G.Muchemi, J.Muruthi, S.Mwaura and T.Kiragu will open up the course teeing off first at 6.30 AM.
Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa county has the June Mug and the Ladies Medal to be played in a strokes play format featuring 18 holes.
Club Chairman Kamami Njoroge and Club Captain Dinesh Sasan said the event sponsored by the Club has attracted some 180 golfers and will start from 6.30 am with a lot of side entertainments lined up for the golfers.
“We expect golfers from the home club, Mombasa Golf club, Vipingo Ridge, Malindi, Leisure golf club and others from across the country and it will be a day full of fun and enjoyments,” said Njoroge.
