Major Joel Mochanga registered a back to back victory in the Commander Kenya Navy golf played at the par 71 Sea-link Mombasa golf club course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 4, Mochanga finished with a count back score of 35 stable ford points to emerge the KDFGA Division A winner, to claim the 2025 trophy and record his back to back after emerging the winner in the same tournament played last year at Nyali golf and Country club course also in Mombasa county.

“This victory is not just about me but it’s about the dedication, hard work and perseverance that have brought me to this moment. It’s a great honor to be the winner again and I take this opportunity to thank my fellow competitors for their sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the tournament. I’m thrilled to have had the opportunity to showcase my skills and represent Kenya Navy Golf Club with pride. Thank you again to everyone involved and I look forward to many more exciting tournaments in the future, “said Mochanga who is also the Kenya Navy golf club Captain.
He had tied on the same score with runners up placed handicap 16 Lt. Col.Epapra Lagat who gave a brave fight for the top prize.
Kenya Defense Force Golf Association (KDFGA) organized this day long 18 holes’ tournament, hosted by the sitting Commander of the Kenya Navy, Major General Paul Otieno with support sponsors from among others the Kingdom Bank and Madison.
A diverse field of 130 plus players from the home club, top Amateurs across the Country, business leaders, diplomats, other invited guests and golf military officers graced the field.
Major Feisal Mohamed playing off handicap 23 brought a brilliant score of 45 points to win the KDFGA Division B category, beating handicap 24 Major Ken Kimundi to the runners up slot by a 6 points difference while handicap 25 Brigadier Lawrence Gituma emerged the Veteran winner after producing 39 points.
In the Ladies side, handicap 26 Captain Mesaidi Maarifa was declared the KDFGA Lady winner on 48 points and Sergeant Faith Muteti playing off handicap 16 claimed the runners up slot with her 41 points.
For the home club members, handicapped at 28, Bernard Simuyu playing off handicap 20 went home happy with the Members’ men winner prize for his 43 points and handicap 16 was the runners up on 41 points.
Handicap 17 Zaituni Mohamed claimed the Members’ Lady winner’s prize with 36 points for those Ladies handicapped at 36 and the runners up slot on 34 points was won by handicap 17 Wanjiku Kinyeru.
Dorcas Bett playing off handicap 15 carded 43 points to win the guest prize with handicap 27 Nick Chvada on 42 points walking home with the junior prize.
The senior winner’s prize for those above 60 years was claimed by Handicap 17 left handed golfer Elijah Ibua while handicap 36 Ronald Isaaka with 32 points and handicap 41 John Orioro on 42 points were the Sponsor and Subsidiary winners respectively.
Club Chairman Lawrence Odhiambo flanked by his captain George Mokaya extended their gratitude to the Kenya Navy, Players and all the esteemed sponsors for their support in making the event successful.

Elsewhere, Teenage sensation Cherono Kipkorir punched above her weight to emerge the overall gross Lady winner during the Royal Nairobi golf club leg of the ongoing 2025 NCBA golf series on Saturday.
The 15-year-old, who won this leg of the series during the 2021 edition carded an impressive 79 strokes playing off handicap 7 to floor the ladies on the course and book her spot for the grand finale set to be held at Muthaiga golf club in Nairobi on November 28, 2025.
Kevin Juma, the 2025 Royal Nairobi golf club champion, played to his status and emerged the Overall Men winner after scoring 71 gross off handicap 2, joining Cherono on the list of golfers heading to the finale, from a field of 263 golfers that turned up at Royal.
Brian Gachuba (handicap 6) emerged the Division one winner with 39 points as John Juma (handicap 19) and Flora Mutahi (handicap 24) won the men and lady Division two titles with 44 points a-piece while Tribhovan Chavda won the Division Three title after carding 43 points.
Cherise Wachira (handicap 11) posted 37 points to emerge the junior winner and also make the list of six who will represent the club at Muthaiga in November, the others being Cherono, Kevin Juma, John Juma, Mutahi, and Chavda.
Alex Kiome and Joseph Mokaya were the guest and staff winners respectively, scoring 38 and 36 points respectively.
NCBA Kenya Managing Director James Gossip said, “Congratulations to the winners for the day. I hope everyone enjoyed today even as we gear toward the grand finale at Muthaiga. At NCBA, we will continue giving golfers a platform to grow not just on the course, but also in life.”
Action in the series now heads to Nanyuki Golf Club on Saturday, September 20 th, where more golfers will be looking to secure their spots in the grand finale as the series enters the homestretch.

And adds Brian Jaysins, OXYGENE PR, the four-ball of Serah Githaiga, Rose Wamuyu, Patrick Mwaniki, and Patrick Matheri returned a combined score of 151 points to emerge as the overall winners of the 19th leg of the KCB East Africa golf Tour at the Nyeri Club on Saturday.
They triumphed over the team of Lady Captain Perister Gaitho, David Maina, Daisy Mumbi, and Newton Wambugu, who returned 150 points to be named the second-best team at the tournament that 148 golfers attended.
Serah Githaiga said, “We had a tremendous four-ball. We pushed each other to do well, and that is exactly what we did. Now, we will go back to the drawing board to prepare for the tour’s grand finale on December 5, 2025. We hope that we will fly the Nyeri Club flag high during that competition.”
Handicap 28 golfer Daisy Mumbi who had an excellent display on the course returned 41 points to clinch the overall winner, beating a huge field while handicap 6Felix Kibicho returned 39 points to be crowned the runner-up.
David Maina emerged as the Men’s Division 2 Winner with 45 points, while Patrick Mwaniki claimed the Men’s Division 3 runner-up slot also with 45 points.
Among the ladies, Margaret Mweru stood out as the Division 1 winner on 41 points with Jane J. Muthoni finishing as the Division 2 runner-up on 45 points.
Guest participants also impressed, with Mercy Wanjira taking the Guest winner slot on 42 points while in the staff category, Peter Mwaura was crowned the winner with 35 points and Scola Onsongo followed closely as runner-up on 34 points.
Other standout performances included Fr. Kimani, who clinched the gross title with a score of 80 gross, while also securing the Longest Drive Men award.
Mercy Wanjira added to her tally by winning the Longest Drive Lady category and in the precision contests, William Kagia won the Nearest to Pin Men, while Jane J. Muthoni topped the Nearest to Pin Lady challenge.
KCB extended its support to the game’s future and community where on Sunday it hosted a junior golf clinic at the same venue, introducing young players to the sport and nurturing the next generation of golfers.
Looking ahead, KCB will host a caddie tournament on Monday, expected to attract more than 100 caddies, further demonstrating its commitment to inclusivity and development in golf.

The next leg of the KCB East Africa golf tour will be held at the Kitale golf course on September 20, 2025.
