Home lady golfer Maria Giada clinched the 2025 ‘Chenda Chenda’ title at the 9-hole Malindi golf and country club course in Kilifi county on Saturday.
The handicap 27 Giada recorded a score of 40 stable ford points to emerge the mixed division one overall winner in the day long 18 holes’ tournament that featured a large number of 120 players.
“Thank you all to the organizers and the sponsors for this incredible tournament and incredibly delighted for this victory. This win came through patient while focusing on my game and am grateful to have overcome all challenges throughout the course. I now look forward to improve my game better in readiness for the forthcoming tournaments, “said Giada.
Handicap 18 Kate Mwikali claimed the runners up slot on 39 points beating handicap 7 John Maina to the third slot on a single point difference.

Tournament convener Paul Chivatsi said the daylong 18 long holes’ successful tournament themed “Let’s play and celebrate our heritage” attracted 120 golfers from the home club, Coast Clubs and across the Country.
He explained that tournament was a culmination of the ‘Chenda Chenda’ which is a significant annual cultural festival celebration on the Kenyan coast featuring the nine Coastal tribes, that kicked off from September 9 th, 2025 in Kwale County at Kaya Mtswakara and in Kilifi County at Pwani University.
“The tournament was a celebration of both sport and the vibrant heritage of the Mijikenda people that displayed an exciting day of competition, culture, and community engagement. It did not only promote unity and local traditions but also strengthen Malindi’s position as a cultural and sporting hub, “said Chivatsi.
It was jointly supported by Q Boutique Resort Malindi, Gideon Mung’aro Foundation, Geosurveys and Geospatial Information Limited.
Others are DFS Limited, Express Lines Ltd, Zuri Electronics, Office of the MP Malindi Constituency, Kabibi Mpenzi Foundation, Masharubu Furniture, The Kasa Malindi, Agitech Seedlings, Printedia, Kasa Fitness, Friends of Chenda Chenda, Astra and Tezzo.
Meanwhile, handicap 18 Grace Miano carded 70 nett to emerge the overall nett winner in the 2nd edition of the September 2025 Pendant tournament played at the Ruiru Sports Club in Kiambu County also on Saturday.
Handicap 14 Pauline Mungai was the Division A gross winner on 85 gross and taking the same on Division B was handicap 21 Susan Kanyora with 93 gross.
Irene Wamoro playing off handicap 20 returned a score of 72 nett to claim the Nett Division A prize while handicap 35 Mercy Martin emerged the Nett Division B winner after recording a score of 72 nett and Esther Kabau playing off handicap 49 was the Division C winner on 64 nett.
The Guest lady prize was won by Joy Gacheru playing off handicap 35 who brought 61 nett and handicap 10 Simon Gichuru carded 69 nett to emerge the Men winner.
Club Lady Captain Rodah Mukami expressed her excitement on the success of the tournament saying that the “Pendant” is one of the oldest and most prestigious medal-style competitions on the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) calendar and brought together lady golfers from across the country who competed for the coveted title.
“This is a special event in ladies’ golf and the club is proud to have hosted it for the second edition. We hoped that all the players experienced not only great golf but also the warm spirit of friendship and the competition that defined this tournament,” said Mukami.
This year’s tournament was jointly supported by Family Bank and friends of the Lady Captain was one of the ongoing platforms for the Kenya Lady golfers preparing to participate in the forthcoming 2025 East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy (EACAACT) ladies’ championship, a World amateur ranking tournament being organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) and set for 20th-25th October at the Great Rift Valley Golf Resort course.

Launched in 2023, the tournament continues to grow, promoting the sport and supporting junior golfers.
In her address, Mary Karano, a dedicated golfer with 36 years of experience, shared her passion for the game and its future.
“I have had the privilege of serving as Lady Captain at Vet Lab Sports Club and currently as a Club Director overseeing junior golf.
The future of golf depends on our juniors, and it’s essential we invest in them,” she said.
She announced that KSh. 150 from each entry fee would go to the Junior Golf Kitty, ensuring young players have the resources to develop their skills.
“Our juniors are the future of golf. This initiative will provide them with opportunities to grow and thrive,” she added.
Mary Karano also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and supporters who made the event possible, highlighting their critical role in its success.
“Your unwavering support helps make this event a reality. Thank you for investing in golf’s future,” she concluded.
