-Wanyama triumphs over Union colleagues to be crowned the Ultimate Hacker in the Hackers Union Tourney at Nyali.

-As all golfers miss the brand new Car after failing to sink a hole in one;

Golfer Tony Wanyama was crowned the 2023 Ultimate Hacker in the 5th, Annual Hackers Golf Tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

The home golfer Wanyama playing off handicap 22 narrowly survived on an excellent count back score of 41 stable ford points to beat his Union member colleagues.

But all the golfers went home with a sad face after failing to sink a hole in one at the par three 18th hole to claim the KSH.3.8 million worth of the Brand new Volvo XC 6O that was in offer from Kushi Motors which was returned to the Showroom.

“Today was a good day, I had prayed for good weather .There was a lot of excitements and fun playing with my four ball partners. And despite my busy working schedule, I often found little time to train and improve my swings and putting and this is the result, “said Wanyama who is the Outgoing Chairman of the Hackers Union.

He had tied on the same points with  handicap 12 M.Walji  who was the Hacker runners up while handicap 26 Edwin Miano on 38 points and handicap 36 Ejaaz Joseph with 36 points were third and fourth respectively.

Golf Park’s Sammy Mulama playing off handicap brought a one under par 70 gross to win the Best gross Prize.

Arvin Solanki playing off handicap 28 was the Men winner carding 42 points while  handicap 18 Rajesh Kunverji took the runners up slot with a count back score of 41 points, same points with handicap 17 Ismail Gulamali who was third.

Zaituni Mohamed playing off handicap 19 survived on a count back score of 39 points to claim the  best Lady’s prize after also tying on the same score with runner up placed handicap 24 Petronilah Kalee.

General (Retired) P.M.Kariuki playing off handicap 30 carded 41 points to win the best senior prize and  the Best Junior on 38 point was handicap 19 Aydan Jamal.

Handicap 24 Grace Kwamboka from Mombasa Golf Club returned 43 points to win the Guest Prize and handicap 48 Eric Maina was the ‘Piga Mingi’ winner after returning a score of 13 points in both nines.

Handicap 30 Dr.Mukesh Shah with 48 points and handicap 46 Joan Kimani on 39 points were the High handicapper’s winners for Men and Lady respectively.

The event organized by Hackers Union that attracted a large number of 260 golfers drawn from across the Country was jointly sponsored by among others  Kushi Motors,EABL,Original Assets,Vipingo Ridge, Coast Cabbles,Lucozae,Andy Golf, Tudor Health Care,Kericho Gold,Dankis,Contech  and Members of the Union.

Club Chairman Kamami Njoroge thanked the Sponsors, Golfers and the entire members of the Hackers Union for making the tourney successful and disclosed that the event this time broke the Club’s course record with the attendance of 260 golfers that has never been witnessed.

Outgoing hackers Union Chairman Tony Wanyama said the tourney was regarded as the most coveted Golf tournament south of the Sahara and the North of the Limpopo and continues to attract more members.

Hackers is an amorphous group of golfers with diverse members who have fun while playing golf and for as long as you never make it to have a slot to play big tournaments like the Kenya open, the group the place to be. The event runs every year in the Nyali Golf club golf calendar with its slogan ‘you shall never hack alone’, “said Wanyama.

He disclosed that the they are planning to host the ‘dik dik’ group from Dubai as they explore more ways of making Golf and the tournament more fun and interesting.
