GOLF NEWS-Kenya’s Indiza Crowned Champion of the Fourth Leg of Safari Tour Leg at Limuru and also leads the Tour’s current standings;

Kamamega based Golf Professional Dismas Indiza was crowned the overall Champion of the fourth Leg of the Safari Tour season’s golf tournament which ended at the par 72 Limuru Country Club Course in Kiambu County on Wednesday.

Indiza came from behind in recording a total of 215 gross to emerge the overall winner and claim the overall title after a four days battle in the course.
He started round one on Sunday with a three over par 75gross, improved with an excellent score of a five under par 67 gross in second and a brilliant seven under par 65 gross in third day, despite playing a relaxed game in the final round on Wednesday with a two par 74 gross.

The day two and day three leader Visitor Mapwanya from Zimbabwe’s Chapman Golf Club who was poised to claim the overall title, however bowed to the pressure and settled for the second slot on a total of 275gross (67-67-69-72).
Muthaiga’s Greg Snow and Kenya Railway’s Samuel Njoroge tied for the third slot after both returned a combined score of 283gross each while Nyali Golf and Country Club’s Daniel Nduva was fourth on a total of 284 gross.

These were among the 63 Amateurs who made the cut after two rounds on Monday to sail to the next two rounds where the winners shared an impressive one million Kenyan Shillings with the champion walking away with a substantial prize of 150,000 Kenyan Shillings.
The Safari Tour organized by the Kenya Golf Limited as a road to Magical Kenya Open, kicked off on Saturday with a Pro-Am where the Nigerian Professional Willy Gift led a team of Kenyan Amateurs P.Kihanya, J.N.Kihanya and J.Kihanya to grab the overall lead with a combined total of 88 points.
Kenya’s Professional Robinson Owiti managed his team of L.Maina, Wanjohi Jotham and J.Chege to claim the runners up slot on a combined count back score of 86 points after tying with third placed team of Kenyan Professional Simon Ngige and his Amateurs group of W.Wanjui, P.Mungai and F.Mwaura.
The Individual overall winner was handicap 14 Nicholas Gathuru who carded 41 points while handicap 45 Luke Oduor on account back score of 39 points won the Men winner slot after tying on the same score with handicap 11 Peter Mungai who was the Men runners up.
Margaret Wairimu playing off handicap 20 won the Lady’s title on 39 points and handicap 18 claimed the runners up slot with 35 points.
Taking the junior prize was handicap 23 Mumbi Gitau on 35 points and B.Onyancha was the luckiest golfer registering a rare hole in one at hole 16th.
This Safari tour is a prestigious event in an intense competition among the professionals and the amateurs drawn from Nigeria, Rwanda, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania, and the host country, Kenya.
Dismas Indiza is currently the leader of the series with an impressive 213 points, closely followed by Colleague Samuel Njoroge at 179.5 points while Daniel Nduva is third with 155.5 points.

Meanwhile, the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Vincent Wangombe, Joins The Royal & Ancient (R&A) in Key Rules, Handicapping, and Development Role for East Africa.
This announced by Kenya Golf Union (KGU) of the appointment of Wangombe by the R&A to a pivotal role with a special emphasis on the Region.
In this role Wangombe will lead the delivery of R&A Rules education programs, contribute to Rules matters at R&A championships across the continent, implement the World Handicap System, and establish structures to support these initiatives.
“He will also manage external relationships, foster collaboration with affiliates, and work towards growing and developing golf, “said KGU.
His responsibility include Identifying and managing external relationships with key affiliates in Africa, Contributing to The R&A’s Rules education program through seminars in the region, Lead efforts to onboard countries onto the WHS and contribute to Course Rating expertise.
Others are to assist in initiatives to increase participation and opportunities in East Africa, Provide advice, expertise, and resources to affiliates for golf development.
“The Kenya Golf Union looks forward to leveraging Mr. Wangombe’s expertise to elevate golf in East Africa, “said KGU.
