Kinuthia’s appointment ushers in a new chapter focused on strengthening Club partnerships, grassroots development, and elevating the Sport across Kenya.
In his acceptance speech, Kinuthia emphasized the critical role that Golf Clubs play in the health and future of the sport.
“Our clubs are the lifeblood of Kenyan Golf. They are where the game lives, breathes, and thrives. KGU must be a true partner, listening closely, supporting practically, and responding effectively to the needs of every Club in the Country,” said Kinuthia.
He outlined his vision for the Union under his leadership, pledging stronger engagement and institutional support.
“We will enhance communication, provide legal support especially in these challenging times, improve staff efficiency, and work hand in hand with clubs to grow participation and elevate standards. We will expand our reach, ensuring that promising golfers across the Country receive the support and opportunities they deserve, regardless of their background or geography. Improving talent identification and development will be at the core of our agenda,” added Kinuthia.
Other officials joining Kinuthia include, Brian Akun of Vet Lab Sports Club who was elected as the Vice-Chairman, Jonathan Marucha of Kenya Railway Golf Club, elected as the Honorary Secretary and Weldon Mutai, of Sigona Golf Club who was elected as the Honorary Treasurer.
Executive members elected are James Gitonga, of Mombasa Golf Club, Liban Roba, of Karen Country Club, Peter Mwaura, of Ruiru Sports Club, Robert Ngugi, of Muthaiga Golf Club, Robert Obondy of Nakuru Golf Club and Sam Kang’au from Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club.
The newly elected leadership brings together diverse experience from Clubs across Kenya and their collective mandate is to drive the KGU’s strategic goals while ensuring inclusivity, transparency, and growth for all stakeholders in Kenyan Golf.
During the meeting, members also approved a special resolution to increase the annual club affiliation fee from Ksh. 3,000 to Ksh. 4,000.
This adjustment will help strengthen the Union’s operational capacity, enhance support to member Clubs, and fund key initiatives including Junior development programs, course rating services, and technical training for officials and staff.
Established in 1928, the Kenya Golf Union is the governing body of Amateur Golf in Kenya and is responsible for administering the Rules of Golf, organizing national tournaments, managing handicapping systems, and promoting the Sport at both grassroots and elite levels.
