Nzibo said at KLGU they had an exciting and landmark year with full calendar of women’s golf tournaments across the country anchored by KLGU’s four premier national competitions.
She added that a total of 34 clubs hosted a ladies’ Open, 15 of which were Golfer of The Year (GOTY) events.
“These events continue to demonstrate the growth of the game amongst women and girls, with field sizes ranging from 100-180 players. These events embody unique collaborations in different regions of the country in the spirit of growing the game, “noted Nzibo.
She pointed out that on the international front, 2024 was a groundbreaking year for women’s golf in Kenya in which five Kenyan women competed in the inaugural Africa Amateur Women’s Invitational (AAWI) last February, marking Kenya’s position as a leading golfing nation.
“This RCA tournament featured a field of only twenty top female amateurs chosen from across the African continent, “said Nzibo.
She said that the emerging quality of the women’s game was once again displayed later in the year, at Africa’s foremost women’s amateur team event, the All-Africa Challenge Trophy where the team composed of Naomi Wafula (Captain), Mercy Nyanchama and Bianca Ngecu clinched third place at the 2024 edition held in Agadir, Morocco last October.

“The achievement of career-high rankings by Kenyan players completes the groundbreaking year. With many achieving their first-time ranking in 2023, our top female players continue to go from strength to strength by competing at the highest level in both KLGU events and on the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) circuit, “said Nzibo.
She pointed out that the tremendous year is thanks to their dedicated women and girls’ across the country.
“We also give many thanks to our strong partnerships with sponsors, and our collaboration with the KGU, JGF, and the RCA. We also are incredibly grateful for the support accorded to the women and girls in golf by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage. With our persistent efforts and sacrifice, 2025 stands to be yet another landmark year, “noted Nzibo.
