Major Joel Mochanga took home advantage course in recording a brilliant 46 stable ford points to emerge the overall winner of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Sports golf tournament at the par 71 Mombasa golf club’s Sea Link course in Mombasa County on Saturday.
The handicap 6 Mochanga had a lucky day sinking 7 rare birdies with additional 9 level pars against a mixed pot of bogey shots in the rest of both nines to carry the day’s overall prize and register his maiden victory this year.

“I have been training hard specially to improve my short game and it has really worked today recording several birdies but it is also just my lucky day. This is actually a team award especially to my four ball flight that allowed me to get here at the podium and I just want to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart. More surprises on the course coming, as I continue with training, “said Mochanga.
The 18 holes’ day long stable ford tournament sponsored by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) brought together 120 golfers from the home club, Coast golf clubs golf lawyers from across the country including guests with valid handicaps.

Handicap 31 lady golfer Mary Waqo carded 37 points to emerge the LSK Member winner while the Club’s former Chairman handicap 19 Paul Munyao claimed the runners up slot on a count back score of 36 points.
Munyao tied on the same points with third placed handicap 19 Clifford Tollo as Vikram Kanji playing off handicap 25 was pushed to the fourth slot after recording 35 points.
Handicap 18 Elvis Nduati won the Men winner’s prize on a count back score of 38 points, after finding himself tied with runners up placed handicap 20 Major Abel Cheboi.
The Lady winner of the day on 41 points was handicap 17 Everline Kerubo while handicap 18 Wanjiku Kinyeru on 40 points and handicap 32 Owen Kwalia with 46 points were the runners up and higher handicapper winners respectively.
Club captain George Mokaya thanked LSK, players, the committee, the green staff, and all the members for their support in making the tournament a great success and urged the club members to continue training hard in preparations for several tournaments lined up next month of August.
“I appreciate the support from LSK and players for honoring the tournament that has been a successful way. The day was also filled with good golf full of entertainments and fun, “said Mokaya.
LSK representative in Mombasa Michael Sangoro said it was a great pleasure partnering with the club and they are excited with the large turnout of players.
“This is part of LSK’s sports activities currently going on in Mombasa and this golf tournament was part of it and we are delighted that everyone enjoyed a great round of golf, “said Sangoro.
