GOLF NEWS-Mombasa golf club Lady Captain Fiona Mbandi set to celebrate her Lady prize tournament on Saturday.

-The prestigious tournament has attracted the maximum required link course limit of 120 players drawn from the Coast clubs, Kenya Navy, KDF Lady golfers and others from up country clubs.

It’s expected to be like a birthday celebration as Mombasa golf club lady Captain Fiona Mbandi is set to host 120 golfers during her prize golf tournament at the club’s par 71 sea-link course in Mombasa county on Saturday.
The tournament at the 9-hole course is organized and supported by several stakeholders to celebrate Mbandi’s tenure in office .
It is open to all Lady members of the home club who must hold valid WHS handicap indexes and registration close on Wednesday, 29th, January.
The format of play for ladies to play off Ladies Course 2, is first nine Medal, second sine Stable ford and the overall lady winner will be the person with the lowest differential nett score minus stable ford points and the winner shall be from the home club.


Men golfers are also invited but will be playing stable ford for both nines in the subsidiary and must have valid handicaps and all will play off the ladies Course of the World Handicapping System.
A strict warning has been sent to the players to adhere to their tee off times and all proceeds of the tournament collected from the entry fee and optional ball pool will go towards the Club’s Tannahill team of 2025.


Among the ladies expected will be guests from Nyali, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and friends of the lady captain and the Kenya Navy golf lady Captain Faith Muteti who has confirmed participation.

Muteti will be leading a strong team of colleagues comprising Grace Kwamboka, Priscilla Lumumba, Orpha Wamaitha among other Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) lady golfers from other services.
The tournament is jointly sponsored by the club, KCB, Villa Becky, Gras Savonge, Tamarind Dhow, Channah Cakes, Ladisan Technologies, Andy Golf Pro Shop, Nulook, and friends of the lady Captain.

The host club lady captain Fiona Mbandi said there will be a lot of entertainments and fun and paid a lot of gratitude for the tremendous support received from the Club Board, dedicated members, friends, sponsors and families and delighted to note that the tournament has attracted the required maximum players that has met the course capacity for the 9 scenic links course.
“Their unwavering encouragement has been key to our success over the past year. I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to our sister clubs, including Vipingo, Malindi, Nyali, and Leisure, for their collaboration, and to our loyal sponsors for making our events possible, “said Mbandi.


She pointed out that one of the highlights of her term in office has been hosting two very successful Coast Ladies Open events in 2023 and 2024, which brought together golfers from across the region. “These events have played a significant role in fostering unity and growth within the golfing community.
I would like to invite all to participate in the upcoming Lady Captain Prize event. This event is open to both men and women. It’s an excellent opportunity for us all to dedicate time to our health and well-being while enjoying the game of golf, and as we come together for this event, let us also be mindful of our responsibility to preserve and protect our environment, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the beauty of nature as we do. According to the terms of the competition, the dress code must be red and white on the course while in the evening all players and guests must be glamorous with a touch of red.
It further pointed out that handicap limit for winners is 28 for men and 36 for ladies and that there will be however be a special prize category for winners with handicaps above the described limits.
