GOLF NEWS-Ongere, Murumba and Muteti emerge winners in Kenya Navy Captain’s (Maj.Lagat) tourney at Mombasa course;

The Mombasa Golf Club in Mombasa County was buzzing with excitement on Saturday as 101 talented golfers graced the par 71 sea-link course for dominance in the Kenya Navy Captain’s (Maj.Epapra Lagat) Prize Tournament
But Justine Ongere dominated the challenging the pristine fairways and overcame the sea breeze whispering discouragement to emerge the overall winner.

The handicap 19 golfer displayed out all his skills and unleashed powerful drives soaring through the cool sea air in bringing home an excellent 47 stable ford points to be crowned the leader of the day long 18 holes event jointly sponsored by Crown paints, Stanbic Bank, Dalbit, Kenya Navy, and Friends of the Captain.
“I have been training hard in preparation for this tourney shaping my putting and swings and today it has given me the results of being in the podium. It’s great to win this event and looking forward for even more wins. Let me also take this opportunity to extend my sincere appreciation to the organizer Maj.Lagat, the club and all the sponsors for making the day enjoyable,” said Ongere.

Evance Murumba playing off handicap 25 also tasted the podium after carding 37 points to emerge the runners up.
Faith Muteti playing off handicap 26 and a member of the Kennya Navy was the lady winner with 33 points, a point ahead of Coast Lady Veteran Golfer handicap 16 Florence Karimi who was the runners up.

Golf Kits businessman handicap 12 Andrew Miheso of Nyali golf and Country Club carded 39 points and his club mate handicap 27 Janet Wasike on 37 points were respectively the guest men and lady winners.
Edwin Kiptoo’s shot that landed 12.10 feet away from the 18th hole earned him the nearest to the prize while Martin Ombura went home with the Longest drive men prize and the same for the lady was claimed by Zaituni Mohamed.

Meanwhile Christine Riaroh steered her team of David Sate, Joyce Osike and Tabitha Ojwang to victory after returning a combined score of 109 points to scoop the overall team winners’ title in the  the ongoing KCB East Africa Golf Tour played at the par 72 lakeside Nyanza Golf club course in Kisumu County in the same day.

“Our collective efforts, hard work, and precision granted us this victory today in this very competitive event and it was not easy winning considering the incredible pool of talent on the course. But we are delighted to emerge as the overall team winners and we cannot wait to represent Kisumu in the grand finale. Our aim is to go to Karen and enjoy ourselves at one of the best golf courses in the country, “said Riaroh on behalf of her team.
The team of Prashant Thakrar, Jiten Pabari, Amrish Patel and Ramesh Karia had 104 points to claim the runners up slot.
The two leading teams will now represent Nyanza Golf Club in the grand finale of the tour at the Karen Country Club in November.


Home club’s golfer Francis Odhiambo playing off handicap 28 was the individual overall winner after returning an excellent 41 stable ford points in the day long 18 holes tourney that attracted 100 golfers from the home and neighboring golf clubs.
The men winner’s prize was claimed by handicap 19 golfer Prashant Thakrar who carded 40 stable ford points and handicap 18 Rosemary Obara with 39 points was the Lady winner.

Michael Kotu from Nandi Bears Golf club won the longest drive prize in the men’s category while Kisii Golf club’s Joan Mitei was the same winner in the ladies’ section.
Handicap 23 Eliud Siganga was the staff winner on 36 points and handicap 18 Benjamin Koyier brought 32 points to claim the guest winner prize award as Julius Omollo went home smiling with the nearest to the pin prize.


The tournament culminated in a juniors and ladies introductory golf clinic on Sunday morning a day after at the same venue.
The Bank also took the opportunity to participate in a tree planting exercise at the Club course in its ongoing bid to conserve the environment through the golf series.
Action now moves to Thika Sports Club on July, 7th for the seventh edition of the ongoing Bank’s golf series.

The fifth leg of the 2023 NCBA Golf Series held at Kakamega Sports Club on Saturday concluded on a high note, despite the challenging weather conditions that characterized the day.
Over 100 dedicated golfers from Kakamega and neighboring clubs defied the rainy weather, synonymous with the region to participate in the tournament as they aimed to book their slots to play in the tournament’s Grand Finale.
Cendric Konzolo, playing off handicap 5, defied all odds to emerge as the overall gross winner of the tournament, displaying his golfing prowess with an impressive score of 78 gross.

Among the men, Victor Muhando, playing off handicap 11, showcased exceptional skills, earning him the top spot with 80 gross.
Julius Oketch, also playing off handicap 11, closely followed with a commendable score of 81 points, securing the second position.
In the ladies’ category, Lydia Okech, playing off handicap 20, exhibited remarkable skill and consistency, claiming victory with 91 gross while Dr Beatrice Shikuku, playing off handicap 22, put up a strong performance to secure the runner-up position with a score of 94 gross.
The Nett categories also saw outstanding performances as handicap 16 golfer Jack Songwa emerged as the top performer in the men’s category, scoring an impressive 70 nett points, while Maureen Mundia, playing off handicap 37 excelled in the ladies’ category, matching Songwa’s score of 70 nett points.
At the same time, the Longest Drive Challenge witnessed a remarkable display of power and precision with Cendric Konzolo once again demonstrating his exceptional skills by winning the challenge in the men’s category. Visiting Sharon Moraa from Kisii Sports Club also displayed remarkable skill to emerge as the winner in the ladies’ category.
