The Coastal city of Mombasa is set to play host to the 11th leg of the NCBA Golf Series on Saturday, where 240 players are expected to take part in the tournament to be played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course.
The golfers will be competing for their chance to secure a spot in the Series Grand Finale scheduled for November at the Muthaiga Golf Club from winners emerging in the Overall Men Gross Winner, Overall Lady Gross Winner, Division 2 Men & Lady Winner, Division 3 Overall Winner, and Junior Winner.

Club Captain Omar Lewa said yesterday that the much anticipated day will be more than a game and a total tee off to greatness, where a variety of trophies and exciting awards shall also be given to the winners in the tournament that tees off from 6am at the first and tenth tee off boxes.
“We are expecting more than 240 golfers and are looking at making it both competitive and fun. We are also recommending that Golfers observe both Golf rules and etiquette around searching for lost balls including giving way to other flights when it’s necessary. We have also set great surprises on offer and an excellent social meet on hole 19th,” said Lewa.
In addition to the qualification slots, there will also be a hole-in-one prize on offer, a brand-new JCB 3DX Backhoe Loader, courtesy of a partnership between NCBA and JCB Ganatra.
The series comes after last weekend’s Kakamega leg in the 41 qualifier tournaments lined up for the year across the East African Region for the tour that began in January at VetLab Sports Club.
The day that promises to be an exciting and competitive season for Golfers is expected to see home Club’s Tony Minos and Petronillah Kalee coming to the tournament with their heads up seeking a back to back victory.
This is after their team pair victory last Saturday where they carded 38 points to grab the Moyne Trophy, a top prize awarded in a mixed foursome Golf tournament at the Club.
Mintos and Kale who will this time play separately in the Men and Lady categories respectively said, “We are in excellent form and looking forward to clinching the top spot in the leaderboard. The Course is in pristine shape and through-out the week, we have been working extra hard on our swings and putting in readiness for this Saturday. It’s our time to shine, let it come.”
The Club also boasts of several other skilled players who might pull a surprise in the 18 holes’ tournament namely among others will be the likes of Andrew Miheso, Eliud Bett, Muzahim Taib, Dan Mugambi, Edwin Kiptoo, Willy Sang, Swaleh Omar, Gurbux Singh and the host Captain Omar Lewa.
The ladies team to be led by the Club Chairman Jayne Githere and lady Captain Hilda Mugure has among others top players like Christine Ockotch, Florence Karimi, Mary Kandu, Terry Odoo, Navinder Kaur, Nancy Gathunga,Gladys Mweni, Diana Nthiwa and Alice Wahome (Mother of Champions).
It has also attracted other Coast players from the nearby Sea-Link Mombasa Course, Diani’s Diamond Leisure Golf Resort, Kilifi’s Vipingo Ridge Golf Resort, Malindi Golf Club, Staffs and Guests of the Sponsor with valid handicaps.
So far, the series has witnessed vibrant participation across the Country, with similar qualifying rounds having taken place at VetLab Sports Club, Nandi Bears, Malindi, Kiambu, Kenya Railway, Nakuru, Golf Park, Thika Sports Club, Machakos Golf Club and recently at Kakamega Sports Club.

Gachora was also excited to announce that this weekend’s tournament at Nyali will feature a hole-in-one prize, a brand-new JCB 3DX Backhoe Loader, made possible through our partnership with JCB Ganatra.

The next qualifier will be the Kitale series leg scheduled on Saturday,7th, June,2025 at the Kitale Golf Club.
The Nyali event follows the recently concluded 10th leg of the Series, which was held at Kakamega Sports Club this past weekend where home players James Mundia and Cedric Konzolo stood out among a strong field of over 100 golfers.
Mundia, playing off handicap 9 carded a solid 69 nett to win the Overall Nett title while Cedric Konzolo continued his fine form in the series by claiming the Overall Gross Winner title with a round of 77 gross, playing off scratch.
In the ladies’ category, Irine Ashioya (handicap 17) posted 95 gross to take home the Overall Lady Gross title.
In Division 1 (handicap 0–15), Jimmy Akhonya won with 71 nett, edging out Bruce Madete (hcp 16), who also scored 71 nett but settled for runner-up on countback.
In Division 2 (handicap 16–30), Mikal Kombo claimed the win with 72 nett, followed by Lilian Kong’ani with 75 nett.
In Division 3 (handicap 31–54), Rosemary Nanyama returned an impressive 68 nett to win the category, with Kihoto Njuguna finishing second with 69 nett.
The Junior Winner was Elvis Mbakaya (handicap 15) from Kakamega Sports Club, recognized for his promising performance.
Meanwhile, the NCBA U.S. Kids Golf Spring Local Tour is set to hold its season finale on Sunday, 25th May at Muthaiga Golf Club.
The tournament is expected to attract at least 200 Junior Golfers, aged between 5 and 18 years who will compete in age-specific categories.
The event is organized in partnership with U.S. Kids Golf and the Junior Golf Foundation Kenya (JGF), with support from NCBA Bank.
NCBA’s support for junior golf is part of its long-term commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent in the region.
Through its investment in junior tournaments, the bank seeks to provide young golfers with the opportunity to build their skills and gain exposure.
The Junior Golfers will also have a chance to earn Priority Status points which could qualify them for U.S. Kids Golf international events including the Regional Invitational and the U.S. Kids Golf Regional Championship, scheduled later this year.
