GOLF NEWS-Safaricom injects KES 34.8 million in sponsorship Magical Kenya Ladies Open Golf tournament at Vipingo

Safaricom’s M-PESA has committed KES 34.8 million in sponsorship for the 2024 Magical Kenya Ladies Open taking place at Vipingo Ridge Baobab course in Kilifi County.

As part of this commitment, Safaricom will sponsor the junior golf clinics at the event, with more than 100 junior golfers set to benefit from a full-day clinic with coaching from professional golfers which is part of Safaricom’s commitment to supporting young talents from grassroots in the country.

Further, the telco has also fully sponsored four aspiring female golf players Margaret Njoki and Aisha Duba in senior category, and Vivian Adhiambo and Ekron Odhiambo in the junior category of the Pro-Am tournament.

As the official technology partner, Safaricom will provide a fully kitted Media center and high-speed internet connectivity in key functional areas during the event.

This investment not only showcases Safaricom’s commitment to promoting Golf as a sport but also reinforces our pivotal role as a key supporter of sports in Kenya.

It is also in line with our mission to accelerate growth for fintech platforms in order to scale tech solutions and global payments interoperability and remittances.

“I am immensely grateful to Safaricom for providing me with the opportunity to participate in this year’s Magical Kenya Ladies Open. It was my first time playing in the ProAm event at the tournament, and the experience was truly remarkable. I learned a lot from the professionals I had the privilege to play alongside. One of the key takeaways for me was mastering the technique of rolling the ball far from the bunker,” said Aisha Duba.

Meanwhile hope and  great anticipation is building up as Kenyan Lady golfers has expressed  confidence to deliver best performance in the fourth edition of the Magical Kenya Ladies Open Golf tournament teeing off from today (Thursday) at the 18-hole Baobab Course.

The four days event that ends on Sunday and organized by U.Com and Vipingo ridge has attracted 108 world leading lady golfers and is the first edition in the Ladies European Tour calendar of events for his year.

The Kenya contingent in this only women’s professional golf tournament in East Africa and has Naomi Wafula, Mercy Nyanchama, Channelle Wangari, Jacqueline Walter, and Kellie Gachaga who are aiming to leave a mark by making the cut after the two rounds on Friday.

Wafula ,the only  Kenyan Lady who made  the cut to the two final rounds  in the same last year’s event  and Walter ,both resident golfers and a product of Vipingo Ridge’s PGA Academy, said yesterday during the PRO-AM  that they hope to post a better outing  in years.

“Iam fortunate to be familiar with the course because I know the challenges and opportunities each hole presents here.And having competed at the tournament last year, this familiarity certainly boosts my confidence as and Iam happy to be taking part in the tournament once again. I have been working on refining on my putting, focusing on the greens and Physical fitness is another crucial element to ensure endurance and flexibility on the course, “said Wafula.

Kellie Gachaga said it was great being part of this prestigious tournament, hoping to play her best and also aims at making a cut.

Mercy Nyanchama, a four-time participant said  she  was very excited to be participating in the tournament  Playing against top golfers from around the world is an opportunity also to learn more about the game.

And the Magical Kenya Ladies Open (MKLO) has partnered with technology firm Eventhub to enhance information dissemination and fan engagement for this year’s tournament.

The collaboration introduces an innovative Player Locator platform embedded on the tournament’s website designed to offer an immersive and interactive experience for both on-site attendees and global fans.

At the heart of the platform lies its dynamic interactive map, uniquely crafted to visualize expansive venues, and serves as a comprehensive 360° event tool.

The platform caters to the diverse needs of spectators and fans, whether they are on-site or enjoying the event remotely.

The Player Locator platform offers a range of features aimed at enriching the fan experience, among these is the integration of the Official Scoring System, ensuring that fans can access real-time scores and statistics effortlessly.

This feature provides up-to-the-minute updates on player performance, keeping them fully engaged with the unfolding tournament action.

Additionally, the platform features a Live Scoring Monitor, providing fans with a dynamic feed of scores as the tournament progresses.

Complemented by comprehensive Starting Lists and Timetables, fans have access to detailed schedules of participating players and event timings.

With instantaneous updates on player rankings and a user-friendly search function for quick player identification, the platform also ensures that fans can immerse themselves fully in the excitement of the Magical Kenya Ladies Open.

The technology has been successfully implemented for the DP World Tour, as well as during the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup 2023.

The Magical Kenya Ladies Open is sponsored by The Government of Kenya, Safaricom’s M-Pesa, Absa Kenya, Johnnie Walker, Huawei Kenya, and Kilifi County Government.

And action from the 2024 Magical Kenya Ladies Open (MKLO) will be broadcasted live globally across 100 countries and to 350 million homes, continuing with its history of placing Kenya on the global map since inception in 2019.

The live action will be broadcasted across eleven territories which comprises The Americas, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, Germany, India, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, The United Kingdom, and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, DSTV’s Super Sport will air the action from Vipingo Ridge whilst The Golf Channel will beam the tournament proceedings in the America’s region.

Sky Sports will broadcast the proceedings to the UK and German audiences while Fox Sports will air the event in Australia.

Locally, Mediamax, through K24 TV will broadcast the tournament as the Free-To-Air partner.

Broadcast for the tournament will be done between 3PM and 6PM Kenyan time from Thursday to Saturday, with final day coverage starting from 1PM to 4PM.

Tournament highlights and analysis will also be available on the Ladies European Tour YouTube channel.

Also for the first time, fans can also follow the action through an innovative player locator platform on the tournament’s website designed to offer an immersive and interactive experience for both on-site attendees and global fans, through https://mklo2024.letgolf.live/
