GOLF NEWS-Salim Taib played out his heart to win the ‘Kambasome’ Tourney at Sea-Link Course Mombasa;

Patience, resilience and hope was all home Club’s handicap 27 Salim Taib needed to scoop the top spot during this year’s ‘Kambasome’ Golf tournament played at the par 71 Mombasa Sea-Link Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Salim will remain in the history books of the Club for having recorded the best sterling score of 49 stableford points to be crowned the overall winner in the day long 18 tournament that brought together 120 golfers.


His victory came calling after leveling eight pars against a mixed pot of bogey shots on the rest of the 18 holes to walk home with the leading prize.
Taib could not hide his podium excitement saying “Its lovely to be here at the podium this evening and my winning on how I played remains a secret. But it has been an excellent day with the course playing well and in excellent condition. Thank you, all the Club and the sponsors, for this tournament, “said Taib.


But generally, Golfers went home with a sad mood, disappointed for missing a latest model brand-new Toyota Harrier car prize after failing to sink a “hole in One,’ at the shortest par 3-12th hole.


On the other hand, one of the top Coast Amateurs Henry Kamau who also doubles up as the Club starter and a master of the course carded a four over par 75 gross to emerge the Best gross winner of the day.

Eliud Bett Playing off handicap 28 was the Men winner on 43 points while handicap 26 Danson Mutero on a count back score of 40 points was the runners up beating handicap 28 David Mbugua to the third slot after both tied on the same score.

The Lady title was scooped by handicap 19 Wanjiku Kinyeru on 37 points, a point ahead of handicap 14 Gladys Mueni who was the runners up and taking the third place with 35 points was handicap 19 Grace Kwamboka.


The 18 holes tournament in its third edition at the Club brought together golfers from the Home Club, Nyali, Diani’s Diamond Leisure, Kilifi’s Vipingo Baobab, Malindi, Machakos, and others from the Central Region and was organized by the ‘Wakwitu’ golfing community.
It was jointly supported by Munyao, Muthama & Kashindi (MMK) advocates, Denri Africa, KPC, My Clinic, Whisky Shop, Andy Golf Pro Shop, Artha Insurance Brokers Limited, Wine &More, Khushi Motors, ‘Wakwitu’ Golfers and Friends of ‘Kambasome.’
Club Chairman Paul Munyao playing off handicap 19 was the Sponsor winner on 37 points while handicap 17 Faith Muteti on a count back score of 34 points was the runners up tying on the same with third placed handicap 22 Petronila Kalee.
The Senior winner on 38 points was handicap 25 Maj.Gen. Anthony Rob as handicap 35 Bernard Ogolo on 38 points and the Club’s Lady captain handicap 38 Fiona Mbadi on 48 points were the high handicapper Men and Lady winners respectively.
‘Wakwitu’ Golf Captain and host Club Director Joseph Kitema, flanked by his Chairman Gladys Kasi thanked the golfers and supporters for the successful day saying the aim of the tournament is to promote and celebrate the ‘Kamba’ culture and also foster unity among other communities in the Country.
Club Chairman Paul Munyao who praised the golfers for the large turnout and ‘Wakwitu’ for bringing the event to the Sea-Link Course said the day indeed displayed high celebrations of Culture with diversity and making friendship.
“It will be bigger next year as our Club continues priding itself in diversity featuring various tribes, culture, Religion and different ages. This is what Golf is all about bringing people together and as a club We shall always strive to be one of the most desirable private members’ clubs in Kenya in terms of golf course, quality of service and friendly culture, “said Munyao.
Elsewhere at Machakos Country Club Course on the same day, handicap 26 Daniel Salaton carded 42 points to emerge the overall Member winner of the Eastern Flour Mills Golf Tournament while handicap 26 D.K. Muli on 41 points and handicap 14 Ben Mumo with 40 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.
Handicap 13 Nancy Kariuki returned a count back score of 38 points to win the Lady’s title after tying on the same score with runners up placed handicap 11 Catherine Wambui.
The Guest prize was scooped by handicap 8 William Motuti who had a score of 38 points displacing handicap 11 Wasala Willis to the runners up spot by a four points difference and handicap 17 Gen.Musomba was the senior winner having recorded 37 points on four-way count back.
