Golf Park’s Sammy Mulama clinched the first-ever inaugural 2025 NCBA Challenge Golf title at the Nyahururu Sports Club in Laikipia County over the weekend.
Mulama conquered the par 72 Course known as the “Home of High Altitude Golf” with a sterling round total of +16 score of 232 gross (79,76,77) to claim the victory after three days of intense competition at the 7,800 ft. above sea level spot.
Mulama edged out a highly competitive leaderboard featuring Kenya’s top amateurs, through hard work with patience, conquering the firm greens, swirling winds, high-altitude endurance, and walked home with the top prize money of Ksh, 115,000, out of the total Prize purse of Ksh. 500,000.
“Wow, this is incredible! Playing Golf at high altitude like this, is always a challenge, playing under thin air, that needed a whole lot of skill but, a lot of patience and hard finally paid off. The competition was also fierce with other high skilled and talented colleagues. This win makes it all worth it and indeed sweet. Huge thanks to everyone involved, my team mates, family and friends for believing in me. This win is a dream come true, “said Mulama.
The tournament was the 37 th, Edition of the ongoing Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC), organized by Kenya Golf Union (KGU), that marked a milestone moment for Kenya’s amateur Golf landscape and started in January with the Nairobi Foursomes at Muthaiga Golf Club.
Kenya’s current top Amateur John Lejirma from Royal Nairobi Golf Club) secured second place with +18, playing for a three rounds score of 80,78,76 for a total of 234 gross and was awarded Ksh. 69,400.
Windsor’s Elvis Muigua and Karen Country Club’s Joseph Olwal tied for the third slot after each brought home 235 gross and were each rewarded Ksh. 40,400 for their efforts.
The inaugural championship featured 48 elite amateur Golfers across the Country, all competing for a KSh. 500,000 prize fund, where unfortunately the absence of the recent Eldoret champion Isaac Makokha, who did not participate, opened the door for new contenders to shine in this unique tournament of the KAGC calendar.
The tournament’s challenging setup, combined with Nyahururu’s signature high-altitude conditions, delivered memorable performances, dramatic leaderboard shifts, and a strong showcase of Kenya’s rising Golf talent.
With the success of this debut event, the NCBA Altitude Challenge is set to grow into one of the most anticipated stops in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series.
The Amateurs now set their eyes to the upcoming 38th Edition of the series that will be the Uhuru Shield to be played at Royal Nairobi Golf Course in Nairobi County from 5th to 7th December.
The curtain will then fall with the 39 th Edition in the Nyali Open Champion Championship to be played at the par71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County from 12th to 14 December where the Ultimate Golfer of the Year 2025 Champion will be crowned.
