At the Machakos Golf Club Course in Machakos County, Club Captain Edwin Saluny has organized his Captain’s Prize tournament to bid farewell for his colleagues under the theme “A Bridge between Generations at Machakos Club” as his tenure in office comes to end.
The highlight of his Captain’s Prize week, involves activities in a celebration of Golf, friendship and community spirit that brings together players from across the region, featuring the Caddies, Juniors Open and ultimately the two days Captains prize that culminates on Saturday.
Saluny said that under his stewardship, the Club has experienced renewed vibrancy from stronger partnerships with sponsors to greater participation in tournaments and community initiatives.
“My focus has been to build on our strong traditions while opening new pathways for growth. Machakos Golf Club is more than a club, it’s a family,” says Saluny.
He boasts of fostering unity and cohesion within the Club, acting as a bridge between the senior members who have long shaped its legacy and the younger generation bringing fresh energy and ideas.
While at the Nandi Bears Club, a strong field of 50 top leading Amateurs, will be competing for a prize fund of Ksh. 400,000 and points in the 2025 NCBA Nandi Bears Open Shield tournament.
This prestige tournament is one of the key competitions on Kenya’s Amateur Golf (KAGC) Championship (KAGC) calendar of events organized by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU), where last year’s champion, Elly Barno, who clinched the title with an impressive +1, will return to defend his crown on his home course.
The tournament will miss the presence of 2023 champion John Lejirma, who is not participating this year, opening up the field for new challengers but despite his absence, the battle for the shield remains intense, with stiff competition expected from top contenders.
They include among them John Kamais, Amos Odongo, Daniel Kiragu and with a strong mix of other experienced Amateurs and rising talents, the edition promises thrilling Golf and a tightly contested
leader board.
And other Golfers at the Nanyuki Sports Club Course in Laikipia County will be playing for a worthy cause in the Blessed Irene Nyaatha Solidarity Charity Fund tournament for Consolata Hospital Mathari, a level 5 facility under the Archdiocese of Nyeri.
This is to provide essential healthcare services to the local community under the leadership of Most Rev. Anthony Muheria, where the established Solidarity Fund is aimed at supporting economically vulnerable patients in need of specialized healthcare services, such as neurosurgery.
The Solidarity fund is dedicated under the patronage of Blessed Irene Nyaatha, a Catholic Nun who dedicated her life in service to the sick, poor and vulnerable.
Blessed Irene Nyaatha, a nurse by profession, died serving the sick at Gikondi village, Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri.
Club Captain Michael Mwirigi said that the participation will help make a difference in the lives of those who seek specialized healthcare services in the local hospital but lack the resources to access it.
“Together, we can ensure that every patient receives the care they deserve. Blessed Irene served under the belief and slogan, ‘all for Jesus, nothing for me.’Come swing for a cause. Let’s unite to support our community and promote health and well-being for all.
