After a three days of high-quality competition from Tuesday, the hard fighting Boys’ team braved a defensive force from 14 African Countries in delivering a commendable performance to record a round total of 661 gross (220-223-218) for a second place behind leaders South Africa with 626 gross (212-202-212).
This achievement marks a significant achievement for the Country’s junior golf program where Kenya and South Africa both secured qualification for the forthcoming prestigious 2026 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup championship scheduled to take place at Nagoya in Japan around June after qualification rounds for top-performing international teams.
The boys’ team demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the championship with Mwathi Gicheru emerging as the top Kenyan performer, finishing among the top five individuals at +1 from a total of 217 gross (75-72-70), highlighting by a crucial birdie on the final hole.

He was well supported by Cilliers Craig at -3 from 213 gross (72-66-75) and Dewan de Bruin with -2 from 214 gross (72-71-71) as the South African team maintained their dominance from start to finish.

President of the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) Vincent Mukiri, expressed satisfaction of the Junior performances and assured them of more efforts and support program will be put in place in readiness for the World tournament in Japan.
“The journey to Japan has begun and with collective support from the Ministry of Sports and our corporate partners, am sure our Team will bring glory to the Country. “said Mukiri.
He pointed out that the successful hosting of the AAJTC championship further cements Kenya’s position as a key hub for Junior golf development in Africa championship while reinforcing the importance of structured competition in nurturing the next generation of talent.
“It once again highlighted the growing standard of junior golf across the continent, with teams demonstrating skill, discipline and competitive spirit throughout the three days, “noted Mukiri.
