GOLF NEWS-The annual Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship set for Sigona.

-The three days’ tournament from Friday to Sunday is a 54-hole strokes play format proudly sponsored by Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) and brings together over 100 Elite players from the Region.

Kenya’s top leading Lady Amateurs will be battling for honors against their Regional colleagues in this year’s annual Kenya Ladies Union (KLGU) Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship from Friday 02nd May,2025.
The three days’ tournament that brings together over 100 lady golfers will be played at the challenging par 72 Sigona Golf Club course situated northwest of Nairobi in Kikuyu, just off the road to Lake Naivasha in Kiambu County,Kenya.


The World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) tournament that ends on Sunday is organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) featuring the Lady golfers from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The Championship is an annual golf tournament for female amateur golfers in Kenya and is played over a 54-hole stroke play format, with the Mary Neville Trophy awarded to the best gross score.


The tournament also includes the Dolan Bowl for the overall Championship and the Sigona Quaich for Division B players.
The Mary Neville Trophy will be for those below handicap 9, those with handicap 9 to 17 will be going for the Dolan Bowl and the Mary Samburu Trophy for those on the category Division B off Handicap 29 to 33.

Betty Mutua is the defending Division B Stroke Play Champion.

The championship title has never been defended for the last four years where the winners were Serah Khanyereri (2021), Channelle Wangari (2022), Medina Iddy (2023) Joyce Wanjiru (2024).

All eyes will now be on Kiambu’s Wanjiru as to whether she will set a record in the tournament against other Country mate elite players who are also ready to battle it out.

They include among others Belinda Wanjiru, Margaret Njoki, Kellie Gachaga, Naomi Wafula, Simaloi Mbeya, Mercy Nyanchama and the 12-year-old Kanana Muthomi who gave the ladies a run for their money in last year’s after leading for the first two days with others being Bianca Ngucu, Agnes Nyakio, Brianna Ngecu, Nancy Wairimu and Cherotich Murgor.
Tanzania has sent a strong team of the 2023 champion Madina Hussein from Arusha Gymkhana Club, Elias Victoria of Lugalo Hills Golf Club, Shufaa Hassan from Lugalo Hills Golf Club, Yasmin Chali of Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club, Aalaa Somji from Arusha Gymkhana Club, Racheal Mushi from Kilimanjaro Golf Development and Arusha; Neema Olomi.
Matutina Irumva and Peace Kabasweka will be representing Rwanda’s Kigali golf Resort and Uganda golf Clubs respectively.
The tournament is set to start from 11 A.M with the four ball team flight of Muthaiga’s Patricia Ngina, Vetlab’s Belinda Wanjiru, Lucy Muthaka of Thika Sports Club and Grace Wanjohi from Vetlab.
The last group of Neema Olomi from Tanzania’s Arusha Gymkhana, Royal Nairobi’s Diana Mbuba and home Club’s Jane Njau will be the last flight teeing off at 1.16 Pm.
Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Rosemary Mkok said that they are ready with all preparation set and lots of fun expected around the course for the Ladies.
