Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo, a member of the Sunshine Development Tour-East Africa Swing, delivered an impressive performance at the Big Easy Tour 8, played from 28th to 30th November at the Killarney Country Club in South Africa, finishing joint second with a total score of 205 gross (-5) after three consistent rounds of World-Class Golf.
Playing against a strong international field that included some of South Africa’s most seasoned professionals, Rugumayo opened his campaign with a composed 2-under-par 68 gross, positioning himself among the top contenders.
He maintained his form on round two with a steady even-par 70 gross, before closing the tournament in style with a brilliant 3-under 67 gross, securing his place in the top two alongside South Africa’s Dillon Germshuys, just three shots behind winner Daniel Cronje (-8), 202 gross.
The Ugandan golfer’s consistency over all three rounds, demonstrated both his technical precision and growing maturity on the professional circuit.
It also underscored the competitive standard of players emerging from the Sunshine Development Tour-East Africa Swing, which serves as a pathway for regional golfers to progress into the Sunshine Tour and other global stages.
Rugumayo expressed pride in his performance and the experience he gained saying that it feels great to be competing at this level and to finish among the top players.
“Each round was a challenge, but I stayed focused and trusted my game plan. The Sunshine Development Tour has played a big role in preparing us for moments like this. Competing regularly at that standard builds confidence, and I’m seeing that growth reflect in my game,” said Rugumayo.

With tournaments already hosted in Thika, Ruiru, Nyali, Diani, Kigali, and Royal Nairobi, the Tour is building a sustainable pathway for African golfers to progress to the Sunshine Tour, the DP World Tour, and other major global events.

The Betika Masters doubleheader, sponsored by Betika, will serve as the seventh and eighth legs of the Sunshine Development Tour -East Africa Swing, attracting 84 players from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi, India, and the United States.
Competitors will be battling for a KSh. 2 million prize purse per leg, alongside valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.
