-As Junior golfer Tesha Magira sinks a rare ‘hole in one’ at hole 15 in the same tournament graced by top leading lady Amateurs from the Region.

The unbeatable Joyce Wanjiru from Kiambu Golf Club retained her title, 3 years in row after carding a round total of 226 gross to emerge the emerge the overall winner in the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Open Meeting golf tournament that ended at the 18 holes par 73 Ruiru Sports Club course in Kiambu County on Sunday.

It was ‘killer instinct’ when Wanjiru left nothing to chance on hole number 18 to drop her winning putt for a par to record a for 7 overs to claim the championship title.
Her victory came after carding a two over par 75 gross on the first day on Friday, played a four over par 77 gross on the second day on Saturday and finalized on Sunday with a one over par 74 gross to clinch the 54 holes’ overall Championship title.

“Wow, Iam over the moon again this time for winning this tournament three times in a row and thrilled to be standing here today as the champion again. This victory comes after my countless hours of practice and dedication in a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. I agree it was tough but I have made it through hard work, patience and confidence. Thank you all and I hope this victory inspires other young women to pursue their dreams by just working hard, staying positive, and never give up. Iam Looking forward to bringing in more trophies, “said Wanjiru.
Tanzanian Madina Iddy from Arusha Gymkhana club who was the day one and day two leader, however finished second to scoop the division one award on a round total of seven over par 227 gross after playing 75,76, and 76 gross in the three days while Margaret Njoki of Golf Park Golf Club managed to bring home a total of 235 gross from 79,78,78 gross to claim the third spot and walked home with the division one runners up award.
There was another celebration when a Kenyan junior Tesha Magira from Royal Nairobi Golf Club sank a rare ‘hole-in-one’ on hole number 15 during this highly three days’ prestigious tournament organized by the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) tournament.
“I was just enjoying my game and competing just like the others and it turned out to be my greatest day in golf. It’s so nice to have sunk a ‘hole in one’ at my age though I did not expect it and this has added courage to my game to take the sport of golf seriously. I would also like to thank my Parents, Coach and my Club for their support and will not disappoint them, “said Magira.
The tournament that attracted top lady golfers from the region was also a Golfer of the year’s (GOTY) thrilling edition that introduced an exciting new format with a 36-hole subsidiary event that ran alongside the 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) tournament.
Ruiru Lady Captain Rodah Mukami said, “Ruiru Sports Club has become a hub for corporate events and now for the first time ever, we have successfully hosted the Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Open. This is a testament to the growing reputation of the club and the amount of work that has gone into ensuring that the course is in pristine condition.”
KLGU Chairman Rosemary Mkok expressed the Union’s deep gratitude to Ruiru Sports Club for hosting this first KLGU Flagship event of the year that was also her first one as the KLGU Chairman.
” I was one of the naysayers, I said the Club can’t host such an event. Ruiru Sports Club, you have proved me wrong. You have outdone yourselves, well done. Congratulations to the ‘hole in one’ winner, junior Tesha Magira. Tesha will get a certificate to mark her achievement and a token from Maridadi Motors,” said Mkok.
The Chairman also urged the ladies to continue signing up and showing up for GOTY events and said that as golfers all should also appreciate the rules of golf as it is a respectable sport.
The lush Par 73 Ruiru Sports Club continues to raise the bar with the scale and caliber of events it hosts. Driven by a bold vision, the club’s leadership is working towards earning PGA accreditation in the near future.
