GOLF NEWS-Valentine mood expected in style during the Captain’s (George Mokaya) prize tournament at Sea-front Mombasa Golf Club Course.

-The two days’ tournament is hosted by the Club Captain Mokaya to bid farewell to Member and Friends at the conclusion of his one-year term in office.


-It’s expected to be graced by over 230 players with sterling prizes lined up for the winners.

Over 230 players are expected to celebrate Valentine in style during the Captain’s (George Mokaya) prize Golf tournament at the Mombasa Golf Club course in Mombasa County over the weekend.
Club Captain George Mokaya has organized the two days’ tournament to bid farewell to members,Sponsors and friends after the completion of his one-year term in office.
It starts with day one on Friday,13th and goes on to the main final day on Saturday 14th during the Valentine day with dress code being shades of Blue and Black on the course and smart casual during dinner in the evening.
The first day will tee off from 6.54 am with the flight team Rishi Dodhia, S. Kisevu, Salim Taib and Fidelis Odumo while the last group at 12.20 pm will be that of M. Fernandes, Vincent Muriungi and Dan Mugambi.
Among the players to watch includes the current on form Salim Taib, Andrew Miheso, Shem Abwoga, Sammy Muraya, Epapra Lagat, Feisal Lasker, Martin Wahome, George Thama, Tirus Munyao and the Club’s past Chairman Paul Munyao.
On the ladies’ side are among others Monica Kamundi, Connie Achila, Joan Kimani, Gladys Kasi and Prisca Jebet.
The tournament is jointly being sponsored by Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK), Ports Sacco, NCBA Bank, Diamonds Leisure, Villa Becky, Kericho Gold, and friends of the Captain among others.
Mokaya who noted that the tournament has attracted the largest number of players and sponsors for the weekend corporate in the Club’s recent history has assured the players that the par 71 Sea-Front course is in pristine condition, ready and looking forward to a competitive competition.
“This tournament is a tribute to our golfing community’s support and I’m excited to welcome all the top players including top amateurs, seasoned golfers and corporate players from all the Coast Golf Clubs and surrounding regions. Get your clubs ready and your swing in rhythm. Let’s celebrate the end of a historic era and the beginning of a new one at the Captain’s Prize. See you on the fairways, “said Mokaya.
He pointed out that the Club has experienced significant growth in Golf and event caliber under his leadership and that it has been a historic year 2025 for the Sea-side course.
“Together with members and the Board, we have restored the glory of the Club that will be rewritten in the history books. In fact, I find myself reflecting on a year that has been nothing short of legendary for the ‘Home of Golf’ at the Coast. Twelve months ago, we set out to restore the glory of Mombasa Golf Club and together also setting our most successful year for corporate engagement, “noted Mokaya.
He further thanked the Mombasa Golf Club League, saying this has seen fierce but a friendly competition all season, saying an event of this magnitude is only possible through the generosity of their partners.
Mokaya also highlighted the Club’s achievements while in office where it won the 2025 Tannahill Shield at Royal Nairobi course, a first win in over 100 years, won the prestigious 2025 Barry Cup that remained at home, a trophy clinched by the Club’s player Henry Kamau who officially turned Professional this year in January.
He also said that the Club has also won the 2025 Inaugural Coastal Inter-club competition and currently sits at the top of the leaderboard and now heads to Malindi Golf Club later this March for the final leg.
Last Saturday, the Club’s outgoing Lady Captain Susan Mwangi who handed over the ladies’ office to her Vice-Captain Gladys Kiprono, held a similar tournament that was won by Nyali Golf and Country Club Lady Captain Hilda Mugure.
Club Chairman’s (Lawrence Odhiambo) Prize tournament will be the next one set for next month in March.
