-Nguku and Wamae roars at Ruiru Sports and Thika Greens respectively over the weekend;

-This was during the second and third circuit of the on ongoing ICEA LION King of the Course Tourneys that brought together some 450 golfers separately in both Clubs;

Home Club’s Isaack Nguku beat a team of 250 golfers to emerge the overall winner of the third circuit in the 2024 ICEA LION King of the Course Golf tournament played at Ruiru Sports Club Course in Kiambu County on Saturday.

The handicap 13 Nguku roared loudly after carding an excellent 45 points to be crowned the King of the Course in the tournament sponsored by ICEA LION group.

“Hard work and patience including consistent training has finally paid off today. Am so proud and excited to win this tourney and look forward to more titles, “said Nguku.

The Golfer beat handicap 20 Patrick Wamae to the runners up placed by a single point difference while handicap 14 James Mureithi on 43 points and handicap 18 George Wandera with 40 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.

Esther Njau playing off handicap 26 was the Lady winner on a count back score of 40 points  after tying  on the same score with  runners up placed handicap 18 Catherine Gitonga.

The Guest winner  was handicap 17 Peter Kimatu who had  a count back score 40 points also tying on the same points with handicap 26 Grace Wanjiku  who was the runners up.

Telvin Thuku playing off handicap 15 won the Junior Prize on 38 points while the senior prize on 40 points was scooped by handicap 23 Stanley Mwangi and Sarah Tuwei playing off handicap 37 brought 37 points to walk home with the Staff prize.

The Division two lady winner on 36 points and  the same for Man were won by handicap 39 Jecinta Wahome and handicap 32 Lee Munene respectively.

Justus Mathenge was the longest drive man winner and Grace Miano was winner of the same category for the Ladies.

The Nearest to the pin lady winner and Men winner prizes were scooped by Sophie Mbochi and Kimani Munyua respectively.

The golf Captain of Ruiru Sports Club Jesse Ndegwa said the Club as always is also thrilled to playing host to the third edition of the tournament and noted that it only gets better with every year being special and also is an opportunity for growth of the sports.

Earlier on Friday ICEA LION  group hosted a golf tournament  at the Thika Greens Golf Resort Course in Kiambu County were handicap 19 George Wamae  carded  44 points to emerge  he Overall winner.

The Member winner on 41 points was handicap 7 Eric Karagu while handicap 22 Carol Kibanya scooped the Lady’s title after bagging 41 points while the Staff prize on 41 points  and  the Senior winner’s prize  with 38 points were won by handicap 45 Sarah Twei and handicap 24 Paul Gondi respectively.

James Ndunda playing off handicap 8 was the Guest winner on 42 points and the junior winner was handicap 16 Telvin Thuku who had a score of 28 points.

Peter Kayugura playing  off handicap 40  carded 44 points to win the Subsidiary  man prize and the same for the Lady was claimed by  handicap 54 Ruth Mbeto with a score of 42 points.

Thika Greens Golf Captain Henry Kinyua the Club was excited to host the series at the lush, 18-holes par 73 modern golf course which has over the years grown in leaps and bounds since its inception in 2014, providing a world class hospitality service offering a mix of leisure, business and recreation.

ICEA LION Golf Series Captain Joe Mboya said that from Thika Green and  Ruiru, the series moves to Nanyuki Sports Club on March 9th before taking a deserved break after which it will head north to Eldoret Sports Club in May for a curtain raising club nite before landing at Nandi Bears Club on the following day.

“The Grand Winner of the 2023 series is scheduled to participate in 2024 Lekoa Classic on April 26th and 27th at Parys Golf  and Country Estate-Vaal De Grace, in South Africa,”Said Mboya.

ICEA LION Chief Executive Officer Philip Lopokoiyit said it was a great pleasure coming back at the spectacular Thika Greens Golf Resort, a sanctuary where passion for golf and a commitment to excellence unite.

“On behalf of ICEA LION, I extend a heartfelt thank you to each one of you. Your presence here today has made the second tournament of our annual ICEA LION King of the Course golf series truly unforgettable,” said Lopokoiyit.

The CEO pointed out that the 2024 series started off on a high note in Machakos on January 6th, and is getting much bigger and better.
