Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama, crowned the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Ladies Champion after emerging the overall Silver winner at the par-71 Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club in neibhouring Uganda on Sunday.
It was not an easy victory after Nyanchama from Njoro Country club had rounded up the three days 54 holes’ tournament on a total of 230 gross (78-75-77), only to find herself tied on the same score with Neema Olomi from Arusha Gymkhana golf club which set the stage for a tie-breaking contest to determine the overall winner.
Under much pressure with excitement from the packed gallery and darkness getting on fast, Nyanchama and Olomi tied again at the par-3 hole 8 after both played pars on their first attempt.

But Nyamchama braved all challenges in the second attempt to roll a level par and ultimately emerged the overall Silver winner to register her maiden victory of the tournament while Olomi played a bogey to claim the second slot.
“Iam greatly delighted for this victory. The tournament was challenging especially playing against skilled ladies but I was really prepared to face them. My participation in many tournaments around my Country, Kenya also improved my skills. I dedicate this trophy to my club Njoro, my supporters and My Country and take this opportunity to thank all the people behind my success. Iam looking forward to defend it next year, God willing,” Said Nyanchama.
Uganda’s Martha Babirye, a former winner of the ladies opens, scored 233 gross (77, 80, 76) to finish third while another Kenya’s Ashley Awuor from Royal Nairobi club was fourth on a score of 234 gross (80, 77, 77) and taking the fifth place on a score of 242 gross (84, 81, 77) was the defending champion Iddy Madina Hussein from Tanzania.
The tournament organized by the Uganda Ladies Golf Union (UGLU) featured a strong contingent of top ladies from hosts Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda and Johnnie Walker Uganda, under Uganda Breweries Limited was the flagship sponsor.
Other partner sponsors included Absa Bank Uganda, Isuzu Uganda, Pepsi Uganda, Aquafina Uganda, MTN Momo, MTN Uganda, MediSell Uganda MAC East Africa, NBS Sports, NCS, Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club and Uganda Tourism Board.
