Kenya Muslim Golfers now returns to golf courses after joining their colleagues World-wide in observing this year’s Eid Ul Fitri prayers on Wednesday,10th,April,marking the end of fasting the Holy month of Ramadhan.
Chief Khadi of Kenya Abdulhakim Athman Hussein had announced the end of Ramadhan a day before the prayers after confirmation of sighting of the new Crescent moon on the evening of Tuesday, 9th, April, 2024.
He led the prayers flanked by among others the Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir among other dignitaries and hundreds of Muslims at the Ronald Ngala grounds in Mombasa County.
The Golfers who have been out of action following the fasting will now be joining their fellow golfers in various tournaments across the Country from this weekend.
The Khadi urged Muslims to unite and continue assisting the less fortunate members of the society, continue offering more prayers and dedicate more of their time in reading and understanding the holly book of Quran.
The Chairman of Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Coast Branch Sheikh Muhdhar Khitamy said Eid was a major Islamic festival which means ‘celebration’ and ‘Fitr’ means ‘breaking of the fast’ and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.
“Eid Prayers comes after the completion of fasting 29 or 30 days of fasting Ramadhan which is also the fifth Pillar of Islam with others being Faith (Shahadah), Prayer (Salah), Charitable giving (Zakah), and the Pilgrimage to Makkah (Hajj).”said Khitamy
Khitamy further pointed out that ‘Eid’ is usually prayed in mosques, open spaces or prayer grounds and after the prayers, people embrace and exchange greetings of ‘Eid Mubarak’ which means Blessed Eid.”
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Organizing Secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa also called on Muslims to continue remaining united saying Eid Ul Fitri is usually a three days celebrations that may start from Wednesday to Thursday.
He urged Muslims to give gifts and share meals with family, friends and the less fortunate during the ‘Eid’ day that is a joyous occasion that signifies the end of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.
“I also urge Muslims Brothers and Sisters in the Country to come together in unity, forgiveness, and gratitude and to celebrate this blessings of God (Allah),”said Khalifa.
In Mombasa County, the Eid Prayers was held at the Ronald Ngala School open grounds and Ummu Kulthum mosque grounds among others from 7.30 am.
Mombasa Muslim Women Parliamentarians Miraj Abdullahi led their women in the prayers but behind the Men according to Islamic rule.
It’s a been booming business around Mombasa and its environs as Muslims flocked shops during day and night to purchase new cloths and items for the preparations of Eid.
There will now also be a relief as most easting spots owned by Muslims at Coast that closed for repair during Ramadhan will now re open after Eid to continue serving Swahili foods like Pilau ,Biriani,Shawarma,Nyama Choma and ‘Samaki wa Ku paka’ among other delicacies.
Hawkers in Mombasa at strategic positions continue cashing in more from Muslims buying Coconut “Madafu” juice and Dates for a big feast.
