Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its flagship brand Tusker, has announced a Ksh. 3 million sponsorship boost for the 2025 edition of the Driftwood Sevens rugby tournament.
The Driftwood Sevens which will take place from 26th to 27th July 2025 at the Mombasa Sports Club, marks the opening leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit and promises to deliver the same electrifying atmosphere that defined last year’s edition.
The two-day tournament is one of the most anticipated events on Kenya’s rugby calendar, drawing thousands of fans and elite teams from across the country.
Tusker returns this year as the official alcoholic beverage partner and the tournament’s official entertainment partner, once again bringing together the sport, the music, and the spirit of togetherness that defines the Sevens experience.
Fans can look forward to a vibrant blend of elite rugby and iconic Tusker-led celebrations at the tournament after party.
KBL Head of Mainstream Beer Christine Kariuki emphasized the brand’s longstanding relationship with sport.
“We’re proud to be back. Last year’s Sevens Circuit and Driftwoods in particular reminded us just how powerful this sport is in bringing Kenyans together. Tusker’s legacy in rugby is one of passion, pride, and purpose. This year, our Ksh. 3 million sponsorships will once again go beyond the pitch enabling club support, fan engagement, and experiences that celebrate Kenyan greatness, “said Kariuki.
Mombasa Rugby Club Commercial Director Teddy Ndemo welcomed Tusker’s backing and expressed confidence of a successful tournament:
“We are honored to receive this significant support from Tusker. Hosting the Driftwood Sevens is a matter of great pride for Mombasa Rugby and the entire coast rugby fraternity. With Tusker’s support, we are working round the clock to deliver a spectacular event, from smooth logistics and strong competition to a truly enjoyable fan experience,” said Ndemo.
The 2025 edition of the Driftwood Sevens promises fierce competition, with several top-tier teams set to battle it out for early dominance on the circuit.
Top on the list will be defending Driftwood and 2024 overall circuit champions, Kenya Harlequins who will be looking to defend their crown.
Also expected to contend are Kabras RFC, the 2025 Kenya Cup champions who claimed two leg wins in the 2024 season at the Christie Sevens in Nairobi and the Dala Sevens in Kisumu, finishing second overall in the circuit.
KCB Rugby, the 2023 circuit champions, finished third last year and will be hungry to reclaim their spot at the top having clinched their only 2024 tournament win at the Kabeberi Sevens.
Also in the hunt will be Menengai Oilers and Strathmore Leos who finished fourth and fifth respectively in last year’s standings.
Other notable teams expected to make an impact include Nondies RFC, Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, Black Blad, and Mwamba RFC.
The Driftwood Sevens is the first of six tournaments on the 2025 National Sevens Circuit calendar.
