The 2025 National Sevens Circuit known for its vibrant atmosphere and thrilling rugby action promises a spectacular start to the season at the Mombasa sports club grounds in the center of the touristic city in Mombasa county this weekend.
This highly anticipated opening leg of the Driftwood 7s Rugby opening leg of the Circuit sponsored by Tusker that will commence with age-grade rugby on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 8:30 AM on Pitch B, featuring, U18 boys & girls, U15 Boys & Girls and U13 mixed Category before the main action running from Saturday,26 th to Sunday 27th.

Mombasa Sports Club Rugby Section Chairman Rogers Lai flanked by the club’s Rugby Commercial Director Teddy Ndemo has assured all that everything is set and urged fans to turn up in large numbers.
“Rugby enthusiasts, fans and families are invited to the Mombasa Sports Club for a weekend of high-octane rugby sevens action, entertainment, and an unforgettable coastal experience. Join us in this thrilling action where much entertainment has been lined up. May the best win, “said Lai and Ndemo.
The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has released the official pool draws for both Division One and Division Two confirming the teams that will battle it out as the new season kicks off.
The Main action includes the Division One, defending circuit champions Kenya Harlequins headlined in Pool A where they will face MMUST, KU Blak Blad, and Mwamba RFC.
Pool B will see Kenya Cup winners Kabras Sugar RFC take on Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, and Impala RFC. KCB RFC, who finished as runners-up in the 2024 circuit, are placed in Pool C alongside Nondescripts RFC, Daystar Falcons, and hosts MSC Rugby.
Pool D will feature Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos, Stallions Rugby, and Kabarak University, a group that promises close contests and unpredictable outcomes.
In Division two, a total of 36 teams submitted applications to compete but final pool placement was based on established Kenya Rugby Union criteria.
Six slots were reserved for KRU affiliate clubs, seven were allocated to teams from the coastal region, four were awarded based on past tournament performance and three were assigned based on team rankings from previous circuit legs.
As a result, the final Division Two pools are as follows namely Pool A includes AP Warriors, Kilifi Titans, Likoni RFC, and the University of Nairobi Mean Machine.
Pool B will feature Embu RFC, Kaya Rugby, North Coast Stormers, and MKU Thika. In Pool C, Homeboyz RFC are set to face Jackals, NYS Eagles, and Makueni RFC.
Pool D includes Kisumu RFC, KCNP, NYS Spades, and Sigalagala NP, while Pool E will see South Coast Pirates, Vihiga Granites, Zetech Oaks, and Northern Suburbs battle for a place in the knockout stages.
National Sevens Circuit Tournament Director Christine Kariuki said that Driftwood Sevens remains one of the most iconic tournaments on the local rugby calendar known not only for its competitive fixtures but also for the vibrant energy and community spirit that surrounds it.
“As the first leg of the six-stop circuit, it plays a vital role in setting the pace for the rest of the season, which will later move to Nakuru, Nairobi, Embu, Machakos, and Kisumu,” said Kariuki.
KBL Head of Marketing Mainstream Beer, Kevin Wambura said that they are proud to support this year’s tournament through its flagship brand Tusker, which returns as the official alcoholic beverage partner and entertainment partner for the event.

With pools confirmed, teams finalizing preparations and excitement building, all eyes now turn to Mombasa for what promises to be a thrilling start to the 2025 National Sevens Circuit.
