The International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), Handgun Pre-World Shoot competition kicks off at Bamburi Rifle club (BRC) from Thursday,4th, September to Sunday,7th in Mombasa county.
BRC is a private club that has been in operation for over 48 years on four different sites within the quarry of Bamburi Cement Limited in Mombasa County.
A press release by the IPSC Regional Director Frank Ambundo say this prestigious tournament will serve as the official preparatory platform for the Kenyan National Shooting Team as they gear up for the forth coming 2025 IPSC World Handgun Championship in South Africa.
He said that the event organized by the Kenya Sports Shooting Federation (KSSF), under the auspices of the IPSC) has attracted some 40 individual players drawn from Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Civilians with valid firearm license.
Ambundo explained that this highly competitive and recreational sporting activities involves proficiency tests of accuracy, precision with speed in shooting and bring together Kenya’s top marksmen and markswomen, technical officials and International-standard competitions designed to sharpen Team Kenya’s performance on the global stage, “said Ambundo.
He said that the Range officer shoot will be on Thursday,4th, and Friday 5th, to be followed with the main shoot on Saturday,6th and the final day on Sunday ,7th and all will be 20 stages.
“This Pre-World Shoot is not only about preparing Team Kenya for international competition, but also about showcasing Kenya’s growing talent in shooting sports and positioning the Country as a serious contender in global sporting arenas, “said Ambundo.
He further urged sports enthusiasts to join in celebrating this milestone for Kenyan shooting sports and pointed out the event will culminate in a closing Ceremony and prize-giving on Sunday where senior Government officials, dignitaries and sports leaders are expected to grace the occasion.
The event is jointly sponsored by Solution E.A, RTW shipping &Logistics, Listen Media, RTP, Premier Hospital, Halal Ice, Kushi Motors and Unga Ni Taifa.
After the Mombasa tournament, the selected Team Kenya will for the second time be going for this year’s IPSC Handgun World Shoot Championship scheduled to run from Tuesday September 16th, to Sunday September 28th, at Matlosana in South Africa at the Frontier Shooting Range.
The Championship will be divided into pre-match (Sept. 16–20) and main match (Sept 22–27), with the opening ceremony on September 21st, and will be a global event, the highest Level V competition on the IPSC match calendar.
