It’s all systems go as Mombasa set to host the much anticipated Inaugural Cecafa Beach Soccer championship scheduled at the Pirates Beach shores in Mombasa County from Wednesday July 16th to Sunday 20th.

CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi confirmed on Wednesday that the championship will kick start the 2025 CECAFA season at the Pirates Beach in Mombasa and are excited that a guest side from another Zone will be taking part as they continue talks with another country to send a team.
He pointed out that the five days’ tournament that will feature confirmed seven nations namely Cecafa member associations Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zanzibar, alongside guest teams Seychelles and Malawi.
“Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Zanzibar from the CECAFA Zone have confirmed participation and with improved structures, solid preparation, and home support expected in Mombasa, Kenya will be looking to make a strong impression at the continental showpiece,” said Mossi.
He further noted that the exposure is expected to boost Kenya’s chances at the continental event especially with the home crowd backing them in Mombasa and with the final countdown now underway, all eyes are on the beach shores of Mombasa as Kenya aims to make a strong impression on home sand in order to lay a foundation for the future of beach soccer in the region.
Mossi further explained that depending on the number of teams, the Championship is likely to be played on a round robin basis so that teams can also have as many matches as possible.
According to the program, the tournament format and groups group stage matches will be played over three days from Wednesday July 16th to Friday 18th, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semi-finals on Saturday July 19th before concluding with the third-place playoff and final on Sunday July 20th.
Kenya has been drawn into Group A alongside Malawi, Burundi, and Zanzibar and will begin their campaign on Wednesday July 16th against the Islanders and then face Burundi on Thursday July 17th, before wrapping up their group stage against Malawi while Group B features Tanzania, Uganda, and Seychelles.
Kenya’s national beach soccer team manager Billy Mwangemi earlier this year travelled to Uganda for a series of friendly matches aimed at bolstering their preparations and confirmed that his team is fully prepared and ready to clinch the trophy.
After the Beach Soccer Championship, the Zone will organize the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, CECAFA Dar Port-Kagame Cup, CAF U-17 Zonal qualifier, CAF African Schools Football Championship Zonal Qualifier, CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifier and the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup.
