KCB has donated footballs, bibs, new jerseys, and a range of training equipment to Madira Soccer Academy, further strengthening the bank’s growing support for the rising football powerhouse.
The donation comes months after Madira Soccer Assassins received a KShs. 1.5 million sponsorships from KCB in July to advance both their football and educational agendas ahead of their return to the top-tier league in 2025/2026.
The sponsorship, spread across two seasons, allocates Sh750,000 per season specifically to support player education.
Speaking during the handover, Madira Soccer Assassins Director Alex Alumirah said the support from KCB is accelerating the academy’s growth at a critical moment.
“This partnership with KCB is making a real impact. We are building not just a competitive team but a transformative community project. Even Netflix came around to film a documentary on how to improve our program, and they will be back in February with an opportunity to interview KCB leadership. That tells you the magnitude of what we are building,” said Alumirah.
Madira Soccer Assassins, one of the most followed Kenyan teams in the USA and Canada, continues to attract regional and global attention.
Alumirah said the academy is home to the largest contingent of Kenyan national team players, boasting 25 call-ups, and is rapidly becoming a significant talent pipeline. Notably, Valerie Nekesa, the first Kenyan to ever score at a World Cup, traces her roots to the academy.
He added that the upcoming Soccer Assassins Complex, partly funded through proceeds from the team’s activities and partnerships, will provide a modern training hub for both boys and girls.
“Our girls’ team is flourishing; four of them have already received invitations to play in the US summer league. Now we want to rope in more boys so both teams grow with a common objective,” said Alumirah.
The academy is also benefitting from a CAF-backed project worth Sh3.6 million, underscoring the growing recognition of Madira’s structured youth development model.
Meanwhile, KCB FC fought back to earn a crucial point after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in a tense Sportpesa League encounter at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega over the weekend.
Homeboyz started the match on the front foot, taking the lead early through GedeonBendeka, who capitalized on a well-weighted cross from the right flank and calmly slotted home to put the hosts ahead.
The Bankers struggled to settle in the opening minutes, with Disemba Kisaka sending an early effort wide and Humphrey Mieno clearing a dangerous ball that looked destined to make it 2-0 for Homeboyz.
Kisaka later produced a brilliant solo run from his own half but saw his shot blocked by a recovering defender.
Moments later, Francis Kahiro came close to levelling the score after pouncing on a defensive mistake, only for his attempt to be diverted for a corner.
Homeboyz also squandered a glorious chance to double their advantage, keeping KCB in the match as the teams went into the break with the hosts leading 1-0.
In the second half, KCB pushed forward with more urgency. Kisaka continued to threaten but dragged yet another shot wide before the moment that changed the match arrived.
Boniface Omondi struck the equalizer for the bankers, finishing clinically to bring the score to 1-1 and ignite renewed energy in the visitors.
KCB thought they had completed the comeback in the dying minutes with what would have been the winning goal, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
Speaking after the match, KCB FC head coach Robert Matano praised his players’ resilience but emphasized the need for sharper finishing.
“We started slowly and allowed an early goal, which put us under pressure. But I’m proud of how the boys responded, especially in the second half. We created enough chances to win this game, and that’s an area we must improve on. The fight was good, the spirit was good, and we take this point as we keep pushing,” said Matano.
The result sees KCB walk away with a hard-earned point as they shift focus to their next fixture against Sofapaka on December 7 th, 2025.
