Dunga FC and Murang’a Sparks are the new Central Region Betika BingwaFest champions following their triumphs as the region’s multi-sport extravaganza culminated at Kinoru Stadium, Meru over the weekend.

Dunga edged out defending champions Al Azizia 7-6 on post-match penalties after both teams played to a one-all draw in regular time, both goals scored from penalties awarded during the game.
Rama Said opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the match after one of Dunga’s players was brought down in the penalty box. Moses Mugambi gave Al Azizia a lifeline in the 88th minute, scoring from the penalty spot as well.
Both teams scored their first six kicks, with the keepers saving the seventh kick on each side. Dennis Gikundu saw his effort rebound off the post as Roney Omondi scored to win the match for Dunga.
Dunga FC captain Dennis Kimathi hailed the fighting spirit shown by his team-mates, adding that the prize money will come in handy for the club.
“We played for each other from the first minute and kept on fighting even after they scored. Beating the defending champions shows that we deserved to win. Al Azizia won last time, and they used that money to add to what they had to buy a bus for the club, and we are hoping that this win can help us do something similar,” Kimathi said.
In the women’s final, Scovin Atieno gave Murang’a Sparks an early lead in the first half, but Grace Mwendwa scored a proper strike from outside the 18-yard area to level scores in the 60th minute for Black Panther Queens. However, none of the sides managed to take the lead in the remaining 30 minutes, forcing the match to be decided through post-match penalties.
From the spot, Murang’a Sparks scored all five kicks, but Damaris Musaya blasted her effort over the bar.
