IPSC Regional Director Frank Ambundo said the Mombasa competition marked the successful completion of the Pre-World Shoot Preparation Competition as part of the IPSC League Shoot for the Kenya team headed to South Africa in the World’s biggest competition.
“This prestigious tournament served as the official preparatory platform for the Kenyan National Shooting Team as they gear up for the forth coming World Handgun Championship in South Africa. It also not only about preparing Team Kenya for international competition, but also about showcasing Kenya’s growing talent in shooting sports and positioning the Country as a serious contender in global sporting arenas, “said Ambundo.
He explained that this highly competitive and recreational sporting activities involves proficiency tests of accuracy, precision with speed in shooting and that Team Kenya is now ready for the Challenge.
“The team affirmed its readiness for the world stage through crisp, proficient displays of speed and accuracy “noted Ambundo.
He noted that the Sports shooting is an expensive discipline, with the costs of ammunition, equipment, and shooting gear often being prohibitive and appeals to well-wishers, sponsors and the government to partner with them in developing and growing the sport from the grassroots level all the way to the national team.
“It is important to debunk the myth that shooting is a ‘rich man’s’ sport. In reality, it is a classless sport driven by passionate sports shooting individuals who make significant financial sacrifices to participate.
The Kenya team is a diversified one, comprising members of the Kenya Defense Forces, the National Police Service (including DCI), and civilians. Importantly, the team also embraces gender inclusivity, with five female competitors participating. To demystify the sport further, KSSF emphasizes the need for grassroots sports shooting programs in high schools, so that talented individuals can nurture their skills early, as is the case in Europe, Asia, and the USA,” Ambundo pointed out.
East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Sarai also graced the prize giving ceremony and pledged to seek Government’s support in assisting to improve logistical issues facing the Sports shooting in the Country.
