KCB Women’s Volleyball team defeated Kenya Pipeline 3-1 in its last match of the 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) at the Nyayo Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the Capital City Nairobi, Kenya.

The pulsating encounter saw Kenya Pipeline take the upper hand in the first set winning 25-22 before the bankers won the subsequent sets 25-16, 25-16 and 25-12 to secure a playoffs spot in the current league.
The loss in the first set was a wake-up call for the Lionesses who upped their game with Juliana Namutira, Esther Mutinda and youngster Pauline Chemutai making the difference.

Head Coach Japheth Munala said, “I am proud of the girls for putting on a show and finally getting my revenge back at Kenya Pipeline who have beaten us thrice in our last three encounters. The incorporation of youngsters like Pauline Chemutai gave us more power today and Esther Mutinda is a force to reckon with, she motivated and pushed the team forward. I am very happy for this win.”
The win was KCB’s third victory this weekend in the 4th leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league having thrashed Nairobi Prisons 3-0 on Friday and 3-1 triumph over DCI in the second day evening at the same venue.


“We have been excellent today. The team was very much ready for this clash having lost to them a couple of times. Everyone did her part and executed perfectly. Our focus shifts to the upcoming league playoffs which we want to approach it tactfully and win the title in the end,” said an ecstatic KCB Captain Edith Wisa.
The team will now await confirmation from the federation on whom they are going to play against in the forthcoming playoffs.
Earlier the KCB had secured an important 3-1 win over DCI, registering a 25-21 victory in the first set before losing the second set 21-25 to the detectives who proved too strong.


The bankers however registered a statement in the last two sets winning 25-19, and 25-18 to record their second win at the weekend.
Head Coach Japheth Munala had handed his captain Edith Wisa a starting spot in the first set who came from the bench where the skipper made excellent blocks that steered KCB to glory in the encounter.
“We started very well in the first set, but the second set was not so good because we made a lot of mistakes that cost us that set. We, however, rectified and improved in the last two sets. Today’s win is important for us because it is a morale booster going to an even tougher fixtures ahead,” said Edith Wisa, KCB Captain.
This is the first competitive outing for KCB since the African Club championship in Tunisia where the team finished 5th in the continental championship this year having won the title last year.
