Coast Medical Doctor Rohit Devani was a happy man when he found back his winning trick after over 15 years to emerge the overall winner of the Shell Kenya Golf tournament played at the Par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 21 Devani recorded a brilliant 42 points to claim the title in the day long 18 holes stable ford tourney beating a team of 156 golfers.
“It has been over 15 years since I was last here at the Podium but I have today made it and it was all due to my hitting and putting that did well. This all after following close tips from the Club’s Professional John Kisia who has done a lot to improve my game and I made sure to come up with a good score. I would like to thank him, my playing partners and sponsors for this great Day, “Said Devani.
The event sponsored by Shell Kenya Limited saw Devani received a 13 Kilograms cylinder fully filled with gas, a one week fuel and other prizes..
Handicap 0 William Kaguta was the gross winner after returning a score of six over par 77 gross.
Joseph Kaguru playing off handicap 20 was the Men winner on 4o points.
Kaguru was a apoint ahead of runners up placed handicap 11 Dahir Awdeer while handicap 9 Jimmy King’ori was third with 38 points.
The lady winner was handicap 28 Rose Njogu with 40 points while handicap 25 Alice Wahome on 39 points and handicap 16 Teresia Odoo with 36 points were the runners up and third placed respectively.
P.K.Macharia playing off handicap 36 carded 36 points to win the senior prize and handicap 11 Vishaal Patel was the junior winner having recorded a score of 34 points.
The Vivo staff winner on 30 points and Guest winner with 36 points were Kevin Bett and Elizabeth Mose respectively.
Club Captain Dinesh Sasan said the course is in a brilliant shape due hard work from the Club’s green keeper George Thama and thanked the sponsors and players for making the day succesful.
Shell Kenya Manager Joseph Karimi noted that bthe Company started its roots here in Mombasa since over 100 years and that they were delighted to be at Nyali , promising to come back next year.
Elsewhere at the par 71 sea-link Mombasa Course in the same day handicap 1 Henry Kamau carded a three over par 74 gross to emerge the gross winner of the Inaugural ‘Sotet’ golf tournament.
Kamau who is set to turn professional before the end of the year said the course is excellent but challenging due to the heavy strong winds blowing from the nearby Indian Ocean to the course.
“I played well overcoming the challenges and will continue to record more better scores before turning professional hopefully before December,” Said Kamau.
This is the first ever tournament hosted by the ‘Sotet’ Golfers Association which is comprised of golfers from the North and South Rift Valley and attract a team of 150 golfers drawn from the home Club and other parts of the Country.

Prisca Chebet playing off handicap 20 returned 47 points to emerge the overall winner while handicap 21 Victor Ngari claimed the Men’s winner prize on 36 points and the Men’s runners slot was won by handicap 7 Martin Ombura with 40 points.
The Club’s former Lady Captain Glady’s Kasi playing off handicap 20 carded 42 points to win the Lady’s title, four points ahead of handicap 24 Eunice Kamau who was the runners up while Fidel Wasike playing off handicap 9 claimed the Junior prize on 24 points.

Handicap 19 Paul Koech was lucky surviving on a count back score of 36 points to win the Sponsor’s prize after tying on the same points with handicap 21 Willy Sang who was the runners up.
There was also the High handicappers prize for Men that was won by handicap 33 Kipkurui Korir on 43 points and handicap 43 Diana Nthiwa with 38 points the Lady winner of the same category.
‘Sotet’ Chairman Maj.Epapra Lagat said the tournament organized with a cultural background is aimed at promoting community engagement and fostering strong relations between various businesses, corporates and friends in the Coastal region and assured the Club that it be an annual event and even extend to the diaspora in the near future.
Club Chairman Paul Munyao thanked the Society for bringing the tournament to the Club and assured them that next year the club will be more grateful to hosting it again.
Munyao mentioned the challenges facing the over a century old Club and calls for the immediate attention of the Government agencies and other Multi sectoral stakeholders to assist.
He pointed out that a section of the golf course along the fairway number four is faced with acute erosion both from the nearby Indian Ocean and from the land and is eating into the course at a rapid space.
“Apart from distorting the character of the course, the erosion contributes to increased siltation of the channel which will require frequent dredging, “said Munyao.
And at Karen Country Club course, Collins Were was calling shots after carding 41 points to emerge the overall winner of the ICEA Lion sponsored golf tournament.
However, Kithinji Kiragu survived on a two way count back score of 40 points to claim the Men winner’ slot, tying on the same score with runners up placed Kithinji Kiragu and third placed Dennis Makori.
Jacinta Wambugu was the Lady winner with 40 points beating Lucy Murage to the runners up slot by a single point difference.
The Guest winner was J.Rwambo with a two way count back score of 38 points after returning the same score with runner’s up placed Chris Isabwa and third placed George Kirathe.
P.Mukuria was the staff winner on 41 points and his colleague Janerose Gitari carded 38 points to sit second.
Club Captain Chris Pasha appreciated the Sponsor for the successful corporate golf saying the Club iwill continue to be associated with the group in promoting the game of golf and bringing fun and creating networks for golfers.
The Sponsor’s Life Assurance Company Chief Executive Officer (CEO) George Nyakundi said the tournament was well within their strategic objective of customer centricity and continuous brand engagement and promised more biggest sponsorship of the year.
“This will continue to gives us more opportunities to engage our potential and existing customers in the Nairobi region and its environs, “said Nyakundi.
