SPORTS NEWS-KCB Emerges Second in Bankers Tourney;

KCB was named the second-best bank in the concluded 37th edition of the Kenya Institute of Bankers (KIB) Interbank sports in Nairobi after a good outing.
The bank registered impressive performance in the highly competitive categories, especially in swimming, tug-of-war, volleyball, handball, football, lawn tennis, athletics, and darts as the curtains fell on the banking industry competition over the weekend.

In the macho tug-of-war duel, KCB men’s team was ruthless after seeing off ABSA 2-0 to bag the trophy while the ladies’ team lost 2-0 to ABSA to finish second.
Former Mathare United skipper Eric Oketch guided the men’s football team to glory, trouncing Bank of Africa (BOA) 1-0 in the final and clinching the crown that has eluded the bank for many years.
The ladies’ side emerged 3rd overall.
Under the tutelage of Coach Brian Mathews, the men’s handball team posted an 18-12 win over nemesis Equity to be named the overall winner in a riveting final that was played at ABSA Sports Club.

The ladies had a good run, claiming the second position.
Captain Mary Yvonne Wambui was instrumental in spearheading the women’s volleyball team to a podium finish, winning the title compared to their 4th position in last year’s competition.
Seasoned Lawn Tennis players Robert Mburu and Peter Njuguna defeated DTB 6-2 in the final to defend the men’s trophy while the women finished 4th overall.
In swimming, the KCB men’s team defeated its opponents to defend its title and have now won the competition thrice in a row, underscoring the team’s dominance.

The women’s side emerged 3rd overall at the tournament.
The women’s basketball team finished second while the male counterparts were 8th. The Chess team, a young and promising side, were named 9th overall.
The darts side also had a good tournament, coming in second after accumulating 53 points.
In athletics, the 4×1 relay saw KCB emerged second, being represented by Derrick Otieno, Gibson Omari, Vincent Ogada and William Were.
The bank scooped the 1st position in the corporate run being represented by Mohammed Haji and Ibrahim Lande, Rose Nyamori and Mwasaru Antony.
In the 4×4 relay men, KCB triumphed registering the short time with the quartet of Victor Tonui, Isaiah Ochieng, Richard Kihoro and Bethwel Kiprono taking the lead.
