Forget the quiet, stiff-upper-lip golf you know, this Saturday, 7th November 2026, the Diamonds Leisure Golf Club in Diani, Kwale County will be loud, warm, colorful and full of laughter-Mulembe style.
The Mulembe Golfing Society is hosting The Ocean Breeze Extravaganza, a Premier Golf Experience, and if you know anything about Mulembe people, you know one thing for sure, “when they gather, there is golf, there is fellowship, and there is Food-Plenty of it.”
And at the center of that table will be the one dish that needs no introduction in Western Kenya- Ingokho.
Ingokho is not just chicken, and for the Luhya community, the Mulembe nation, it is honor, celebration, homecoming and respect served in one pot.
It is the dish reserved for the most respected guest, for the son who has returned home, for the elder, for the big day, cooked slowly, traditionally, with love, and served with ugali, traditional vegetables like managu, and a lot of storytelling.
On Saturday in Diani, Ingokho meets the ocean breeze, a Championship Course and a Coastal Party as the venue says it all.
Diamonds Leisure Golf Club, Diani-Kenya, is one of the most beautiful courses on the Kenyan coast, palm trees swaying, ocean breeze rolling in from the Indian Ocean, manicured fairways and greens that will test even the best golfers and this is not just a round of golf, championship Course, exciting competition, Networking & Fellowship, amazing prizes and coastal hospitality expected.
Entry is just Ksh 1,300 per player, with an optional Ballpool of Ksh 200, and the message is loud and clear-ALL GOLFERS WELCOME!
Whether you are a single-handicapper from Nairobi, a weekend golfer from Mombasa, a lady golfer from Diani, or a Mulembe brother or sister flying in from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga or Trans Nzoia, this is your day, this is more than Golf.
Mulembe Golfing Society Chairman Eric Nyongesa says, the Ocean Breeze Extravaganza is about identity, belonging and taking Mulembe hospitality to the coast.
“We are pleased, excited and ready to have the tournament that belongs to all of Kenya. This is more than golf. This is Mulembe coming together. We are bringing our culture, our warmth, our brotherhood and our sisterhood to Diani. When we come to Diani, we are not just coming to play golf. We are bringing our culture, our fellowship, our laughter. We are bringing the spirit of home. People joke about us and chicken, and we love it. Ingokho is our identity. When you eat with Mulembe, you are family. When you play with Mulembe, you are family. That is what Saturday is about. Golf, fellowship, and leaving Diani as one family. We have kept the entry lower, because we want everyone to come. A young golfer, a lady golfer, a veteran, a visitor from upcountry. All are welcome. In Mulembe, no one is a stranger,” said Nyongesa.
Nyongesa said the Society deliberately chose Diani for this edition to give members a premier coastal experience, to open the door to golfers from the Coast, and to show that golf in Kenya is not just for a few clubs in Nairobi.
“We wanted our members to feel the ocean breeze, to play on a championship course by the sea, and to enjoy the famous coastal hospitality. Diani is paradise, and Diamonds Leisure is the perfect stage for our Extravaganza,” said Nyongesa.
He adds that the Society wants to grow the game beyond its traditional base, and make golf feel like home for everyone.
“Golf is for all of us. You don’t have to be born into golf to love golf. If you love people, if you love fun, if you love good competition, you belong here. All golfers are welcome, that is our message, “added Nyongesa.
Ask any Mulembe golfer what makes a Mulembe tournament different, and they will smile and say one word-Ingokho.
In Western Kenya, no big celebration is complete without Ingokho, the indigenous chicken, traditionally free-range, slaughtered with respect, cooked in its own rich broth, and served to honor guests.
It is the taste of home, the taste of grandmother’s kitchen, the taste of Christmas in Kakamega, of a wedding in Bungoma and of a homecoming in Busia.
At Diani, Nyongesa promises that the Ingokho spirit will be alive, not just on the plate, but in the way people are treated.
“Ingokho is our way of saying, you are special, you are welcome, you are family, that is how we want every golfer to feel on Saturday, like a special guest at a Mulembe home. After golf, we will sit together, share a meal, share stories, share business ideas, share life. That is fellowship. That is Mulembe,” noted Nyongesa.
For golfers from the Coast who have never tasted real Ingokho, Saturday will be a delicious introduction to Western Kenya’s most famous dish, for Mulembe golfers who have travelled to the Coast, it will be a taste of home by the ocean.
Beyond the food and the fun, the Ocean Breeze Extravaganza is serious golf, Golfers will compete on the championship course for amazing prizes, with the optional Ballpool adding extra spice for those who love a little side competition.
But Nyongesa says the real prize is the connections made on and off the course, “On the golf course, a CEO, a teacher, a businessman, a young golfer and a mama mboga can all walk together as equals. That is the magic of golf. That is the magic of Mulembe. We network, we mentor our young golfers, we open doors for each other.”
The Society has built a reputation for blending competitive golf with mentorship, friendship and community, as young golfers are welcomed, ladies are celebrated, and newcomers are never left to feel like outsiders.
The timing could not be better, November at the Coast means warm weather, gentle breeze, clear skies and a course in top condition.
For golfers coming from upcountry, it is the perfect golf getaway, play in the morning, enjoy the beach in the afternoon, and end the day with Ingokho, music and Mulembe fellowship.
For Coast golfers, it is a chance to host, to show off Diani’s beauty, and to be part of a national Mulembe celebration.
“We are inviting the whole golfing family in Kenya to join us. Come for the golf, stay for the Ingokho, leave with new friends. That is the Ocean Breeze Extravaganza. All Golfers Welcome,” says Nyongesa.
If you have not yet booked your slot, this is your call, come with your clubs, come with your appetite, come with your Mulembe heart, even if you are not from Mulembe.
Because on Saturday in Diani, everyone will be Mulembe, everyone will be family, and everyone will understand why, for people from Western Kenya, there is no celebration without Ingokho and no golf without fellowship.
And what a stage they have chosen, at the Golf Resort that sits on the powder-white sands of Diani Beach, 38kms south of Mombasa.
It is home to an 18-hole, par-72 championship course known for its lush fairways, 85 sand bunkers, challenging water features, Baobab trees, tight fairways and that famous ocean breeze.
The course punishes you if you miss the fairway, the breeze will push your ball left, then right, then straight into a bunker you did not even see, and the water will swallow the brave.
But that is what makes it perfect for Mulembe, Western golfers are fighters, they do not fear the wind, but laugh at it.
No one knows the course better than home player Allan Habala, a Mulembe man through and through, and on the 2023 Mulembe category Pro-Am at Mombasa, he led the Mulembe members with 33 points, finishing ahead of former chairman Francis Okwara and at home in Diani, he is the man to beat, the man who knows every grain of sand, every Baobab, every hidden break on the greens.
“Diani is my home, but always, I am Mulembe first. I have told my brothers from Western, welcome home, but on the course, there is no brother, there is only golf. This course is beautiful, but it is tricky. If you are greedy, the bunkers will eat you. If you are scared of the breeze, the breeze will beat you. You must respect the course. Play smart, play patient, and then enjoy the fellowship after. We have prepared well. The course is in good shape. The hospitality will be pure Coast. And the ingokho, let me just say, Mulembe never disappoints. Come hungry, in every way,” said Habala.
Habala’s warning is clear, the visitors will get love, laughter and chicken, but they will not get an easy round.
For that entry price, players get 18 holes on one of East Africa’s best courses, a shot at amazing prizes, and a day of networking with golfers from across the country.
Expect an early buzz at the first tee, expect handshakes in Luhya, Swahili, English, and pure golf language, expect drama on the back nine, where the breeze gets stronger and the leaders try to hold their nerve.
And expect a prize-giving like no other, as Mulembe prize-giving are loud, joyful, full of stories, full of chicken, full of that Western warmth.
All roads lead to Diani, Diamonds Leisure awaits, Mulembe awaits, the breeze is calling, come hungry, come ready and come as family.
