GOLF NEWS-Eric Nyongesa and Major Epapra Lagat takes lead in the 2024 Kenya Navy

Golf Club (KNGC) Captain’s (Joel Mochanga) Prize Tourney at the Sea-Link Course in Mombasa;
-While Kimani Karanja wins the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) title at Machakos Country Club Course in Machakos and Kailesh Chauhan was the man to beat in the Crown paints tourney at the Nyali Golf and Country Club Course, Mombasa.

Coast Senior Golfer Eric Nyongesa and Major Epapra Lagat emerged top leaders in the 2024 Kenya Navy Golf Club (KNGC) Captain (Joel Mochanga) Prize Golf tournament played at the par 71 Sea-Link Mombasa Golf Course in Mombasa County on Saturday.

Nyongesa who is also the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Coast Representative and a Veteran Lawyer returned a two over par 73 gross to emerge the overall gross winner and KNGC Chairman Major Epapra Lagat playing off handicap 14 brought a score of 35 points to walk away with the KNGC overall men winner’s prize.

Epapra beat his colleague Major handicap 31 Calvin Mitambo to the runners up slot by a two points difference.
“The course is good condition and playing well despite the strong winds, we used all our skills, worked well and it was indeed a good successful tournament,” said Nyongesa and Lagat.

Orpha Wamaitha playing off handicap 30 was the KNGC lady winner with 35 points and handicap 19 Grace Kwamboka settled for the runners up slot on 33 points.
Mombasa Golf Club’s Men winner was handicap 27 Salim Taib with a score of 42 points while handicap 20 Hilda Mugure recorded a score of 36 points to win the runners up slot.
Dr. Kikwai Kibet playing off handicap 23 carded 37 points to scoop the Guest Men prize and handicap 30 Winnie Ogutu from the Kenya Airforce Golf Team brought 41 points to claim the same for Ladies.
Handicap 24 Major General Anthony Rob on 30 points was lucky winning the Senior and the hidden hole 2 prizes while handicap 10 Jackline Sirai on 14 points was the Piga Mingi winner.

KNGC Captain Major Joel Mochanga organized the daylong 18 holes tourney supported by among others the Port Sacco, Kericho Gold, Equity Bank and Nulook, friends of the captain and graced by over 160 Coast Golfers with others from across the Country and Kenya Navy Golf Team.
Mochanga said it was a memorable day filled with excitement and thanked all Golfers and supporters for their participation to make the tourney successful.
KNGC Chairman Major Epapra Lagat said Mombasa Golf Club has been home to the KNGC Golfers and assured the Club of their continued support.
“Our Members have grown over the last four years, we are happy to be here and we shall continue to produce good Golfers,” said Epapra.
Club Chairman Paul Munyao and Captain Francis Muthamia praised the KNGC team for their cordial relationship and support especially by supplying water to ensure the Club course is green.
“We are proud and committed to continue in maintaining the relationship and extend our sincere gratitude to all who have made this day successful, “said Munyao and Muthamia.


And at the Machakos Country Club course in Machakos County on the same day, handicap 6 Kimani Karanja carded 39 points to claim the overall title after beating a team of 160 Golfers in the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) Golf tourney.
He was a point ahead of handicap 27 D.K. Mulli who was the runners up and handicap 16 David Mwagangi settled for the third slot on 36 points.
Catherine Wambui playing off handicap 11 brought 35 points to scoop the Lady’s title beating handicap 12 Nancy Kariuki to the runners up slot by three points difference.
The Guest winner with 33 points was handicap 29 Philip Ngaru and handicap 17 Felix Kiamba went home with the staff prize after returning 36 points.
Handicap 32 James Njogo on 40 points and handicap 1 Ruth Mbeti with 33 points were the handicap 29 plus and handicap 37 plus Lady winners respectively.
The Club’s former Captain Joe Mboya went home happy after being awarded with the nearest to the Pin Prize, while handicap 39 Samson Kimatu was the first nine winner on 21 points and the same for the second nine was won by handicap 15 John Kitak who also had a score of 21 points.
Hillary Langat and Nancy Kariuki were the longest drive men and winners respectively.
